Does it make ANY sense whatsoever to bathe a child in a MOLDY bathtub instead of using any cleaners or bleach to REMOVE the mold because the cleaners and bleach are BAD FOR CHILDREN? :confused3

I always thought exposure to mold was harmful to our respiratory health, and causes allergies and/or asthma!

Just got done talking to my MIL. She just got done helping clean the bathroom of another family member of ours who just had a baby and has a two year old. She said the bathtub had mold EVERYWHERE and was disgusting. But they refuse to clean ANYTHING with ANYTHING other than a baking soda solution spray and paste. They won't even use products from Whole Foods or any other "green" cleaners, because they still have chemicals. (They are MAJORLY paranoid... you may remember the Thomas Train thread I posted...) Their cleaning methods removed not a stitch of mold or soap scum.

I am sure a good scrub down every once in a while won't harm a kid that much. Mold on the other hand...

I agree that a good scrub with some chlorine bleach (or a commercial mold cleaner) is the best thing for mold, but I am sure these people won't use it. Vinegar is natural and will control mold if used often and religiously. They way it sounds, these people haven't actually washed anything in a long time. In that case, they could try tea tree oil (which smells beyond anything) which might be effective.

What idiots. :headache:

We try to eat organic, non-procesed food whenever possible, but I still spray the heck out of my kitchen and bathroom with chemicals. I was just thinking today, as I doused the bathroom in Lysol bathroom cleaner with bleach that it probably wasn't the healthiest thing to do, but the caulk was looking moldy!

I'm sensitive to chemicals, but I can get my bathroom pretty darn clean with good ol' soap and water and elbow grease. Never had a mold or soap scum problem, and have never used bleach on my tub! (no grout, though, so that might make a difference) Before I became so chemical-sensitive I used Comet spray on the shower/tub if it got dingy and I didn't feel like scrubbing quite so much. :)

I agree with the vinegar. It is as natural as it comes and will deal with mold/mildew if given enough time and elbow grease.

These people are nut cases. (Sorry)
