Okay, if one 50 minute well being massage is $109, and two well being massages are 2 X $109 = $218, why is the 50 minute well being massage for couples $249?? Anyone?? :confused3

There has to be more to this than I have been able to read.

I noticed that too and here is my take on it... the couple massage is held in a larger room... space is premium on board, so they charge more for taking a larger designated space.

I am prolly wrong... but booked it anyway. ;)

Perhaps they use aromatherapy oils or other upgraded lotions?

Maybe so it "costs out" that it makes the REAS Package look like a better deal?

We booked the REAS Package (can't wait) but did crunch the numbers about buying items included in the REAS al a carte versus as a package.... we concluded that, for us, the package was a good deal (mostly so we could pre-book Palo for our 2nd Wedding Anniversary night on board.)

I heard they are changing the REAS Package in '06... I'll try to find the post talking about the changes.

My husband and I did the couples massage on the Magic last week, we were told that being we had the couples massage we had our choice of some things - we chose the full body massage plus a mini facial for each of us. I didn't like the hard sell they did at the end for the products, but other than that the massage was fine. Probably wouldn't pay for it next time.

THis is from mousesavers:

Note that for 2006 sailings, Disney is deleting the couples massage from this package and adding a "Tropical Rain Forest pass for two at the Vista Spa & Salon (length of cruise)." The Rain Forest pass has a maximum value of $150 per couple for a 7-night cruise -- much less for the shorter cruises. Based on that, I really can't recommend this package for 2006

I recently got the couple's massage with my husband and I have to say it was the worst massage either of us have ever had. They were so rough and unprofessional. Both of us agreed that we would never do it again. The room was small and unromantic. Most massages that I have gotten, they have mood music playing and candles burning, but it was just bright lighting and no music. I cannot recommend getting this treatment. They also split the price between the two people at the end, so it is separate bills. I don't know why it is more expensive for two people.

I have to agree. My couple's massage was the only time I have ever gotten bruises from a massage. Granted - I bruise easily, but really! To be fair, it really depends who you have. My DH went back for a second massage from his massage therapist. Be sure that you actually book with a person who is actually trained as a massage theripst. From what I understand, some of the staff is trained "on the job" for treatment other than their specialities.

Thanks everyone, lets keep this thread open as I am becoming much more educated by all of your knowledge and first hand experience. :goodvibes

To massage or not to massage that is the question??

Complete agreement from us here too. I like the facials in the spa, but never again the massages. The room was tiny, the massage technicians had trouble getting between the two tables to move around. We also heard that some of the technicians just received "on the job training" but I don't know if that is true or not. One cruise I did try the hot stone massage and that was better, but still not as nice as I get at home for less money.

Dh and I were just talking about doing a couple's massage on the Magic. He's never had a massage before and I keep telling him how wonderful they are. But it sounds like the experience on the ship has been sporadic, so we're going to pass and will use our $249 (yikes, I hadn't even looked at prices yet) for something else.

How about the single massages? Are they good? Or are they rougher too? I was thinking about treating myself for my birthday on board.

I guess hubby and I are in the minority here. We have always had very good massages on the disney magic and wonder. On our last cruise..the 14 night this past may we finally had a chance to try the couples massages. First we had the couples well being..excellent. The room had low lights, we had lots of options to choose from once we got into the room together. Very enjoyable.

Next we tried the couples stone massage. This was also very nice..it was our first stone massage and I would like to try them at other spas. You also get your choice to add on options for this masssage. Again, low lights in the room, very professional spa employees..we had a great time with them. We can highly recommend either of these treatments.

wow- now for us we loved the rainforest. so the REAS might be something we may do again. we enjoyed our couples massage but not a must on my list..

Thanks Webray, I was hoping this thread would continue to get feedback from others who have tried this. My question about the couples massage is this. Was the extra money paid just to be a couple togehter in a larger room or was there more to it than that. If you bought it as part of the romance package you might not know the cost breakdowns and I understand that.

I think there are several folks monitoring this thread to decide what to do, book it or not... My DW is now leaning against doing this and I am trying to keep our options open looking for more feedback from others. If the rooms are that small then maybe the couples massage on Castaway Cay is the right choice??? Is it the same people performing the massage???

Tell us more about this stone massage thingy.

Anyone here try the couples massage on CC? Me and the DW have it booked for our 9/10 cruise on the Magic. Any thoughts out there is appreciated. ;)

As far as price difference between couple and individual massages..can't help you there. When we looked at the ship menu..neither of us recall a price difference, even looking at other spa sites..so maybe the price reporting is from various menus/various dates. We did not have this as part of the REAS package...we booked on the dcl website prior to cruise.

We have never had couples massage on CC so can't help you there. We could have..it was open for us to do so..but we hate wasting our precious castaway cay time not enjoying what there is. We don't want to be all oiled up from massage..I could see hubby and I burning like heck trying to get some beach time after massage..lol, wouldn't be a pretty sight..lol.

The stone massage..that was nice. Heated stones are used to massage your body..back/legs...really makes you feel good, very soothing and relaxing.

Hubby actually said he enjoyed couples massage more than individual..it was really a good time. Yes, the same people in spa on ship do the massages on castaway cay. There are also a limited number of men who do the massaging..so if you prefer a man..be sure to ask. When we were on the ship..it was Tony (this past may..who knows who it will be next).

Good luck with whatever you choose. Hubby and I also love the rainforest..however this past may it really wasn't working all that well. It was never warmed up early in the morning, aromatherapy scents not working in steam rooms, temperature controls not working properly so you could not get full effect of hot/cold showers and thesoap dispenser in ladies changing room broken also. All these things were reported from the first day on of our 14 night cruise by us and many others...they were not fixed the entire cruise. This made us very sorry we paid for the full two weeks as the rainforest wasn't fun with many things not working as they should be.

You have both given a lot of insight to those of us who have yet been aboard.

Aimee, it is good to know that they all have to be state licensed to perform the massages. I guess I would not have thought about that aspect. That kind of lends itself to believing that they should already know what they are doing when you have a message, and should not be learning on all of us.

Webray, good point on Castaway Cay. It would be a tough transition from massage to snorkeling with my DS.

I am all for bruise-less massages by experienced massage therapists!!!
