A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law told us about SW vouchers that her daughter bought from a TA for a ridiculously low price, that were good for anywhere SW flies, and you buy them without a date, or airport/city listed. Now I just heard from someone else that they were told about these last week, but at a higher price, although still very reasonable.

I have never, ever heard of this before. (Wish I had!) So what's the story on these vouchers? Why are some people able to purchase them so cheap? How exactly do they work? And most importantly.......how do I find out about them so we can purchase them for upcoming trips?

I would appreciate finding out some info on these vouchers. Thanks so much!

I assume that you are talking about Southwest Luv vouchers? These are vouchers for travel given by Southwest as compensation for flight issues, such as bumps or delays. They may not be sold:

https://www.southwest.com/html/customer-service/purchasing-and-refunds/fop-pol.html

Southwest LUV Vouchers are VOID if sold, altered, purchased, brokered, and/or bartered.

If you are caught, your ticket will be canceled. Sounds like a pretty unethical TA.

American use to sell something like you describe. It was a corporate certificate only available in a large volume (20+) and carried the same restrictions as award travel. I haven't seen anything similar for Southwest. Can you provide a link for reference?

I have never heard of such vouchers either. How bout you get more info from your niece, her travel agent & your other source & come report back here? We'd all like to know too!

These were not compensation vouchers given out by SW. They were vouchers sold by TA's that were for future SW travel. My sister-in-law's family purchased enough for them to go to a wedding out of state this fall. The other person said that the TA was suppose to email her the info, but she didn't receive it before the sale was over. She's hoping that the TA can hook her up with vouchers the next go-around.

I just don't understand it all. Thought I would check here to see if someone can explain it to me. Guess I'll need to get in touch with our niece, and once I find out the story, I'll report back here.

I think that what people are saying is that the TA has taken compensation vouchers and is, wrongly, selling them to people for future travel.

Youll probably have better luck at flyertalk.com

Just read thru the thread on flyertalk. My sister-in-law also said something about selecting the flight online, at least 3 wks in advance. Here's the thing though, our niece works at the police dept, and this TA is one that works with the dept. Our niece told her Mom that people on the dept have used these tkts before without any problems. So our niece felt it was all right for her to purchase the vouchers. I believe it was a different TA that told our friend about the deal. In both cases, the sale was for a limited time, and is over. However, it sounds like these sales happen periodically.
