So how does this work i paid 69 per ticket each way and the price has dropped by 20 now with a ding, do they give you credit and if so what do I need to do....never flown South west

Go ahead and start the booking process for the DING fare. When you get to the page for entering CC info just minimize the window and go to the SW website in a new window. From the home page go to the Travel Center and cancel your old reservations. To do this you will need your confirmation number and the name of the CC holder that purchased the first tickets. When you have cancelled the old reservation go back to the screen where you were booking your DING fares. Click on "Apply Ticketless Travel Funds" and then enter the confirmation number of the flights you just cancelled and finish the booking process...Voila! New/cheaper seats booked and it shows you how much you have remaining in Ticketless Travel Funds.

By starting the booking process on the DING fares you make sure the seats are actually available on the flights you want at the cheaper fare before you cancel your old flights! It will hold your seats on the minimized screen for 15 or 20 minutes before it terminates your session which is plenty of time to cancel the old reservation and rebook.

WOW!! You got $49 each way from Canada to Orlando?!
Good for you!! :thumbsup2 I can't get anything decent from Boston or Providence to Orlando :(
You're very lucky!

To reduce your fare it is really important to book one way tickets, especially if you think only one way will be reduced. If you book a round trip you can't cancel the one way without cancelling the entire reservation. BTW, I have PVD to MCO and on 8/24 I paid 55.00 before taxes (late night ding last week) and booked 9/3 at 92.00 before taxes. 9/3 is a holiday so I wanted to be sure I got my return but I hope to get a ding and reduce it in the next week or so. We are going again in January so I will use the ticketless travel funds.

There was a Detroit to MCO ding today, it will be about a 3.5 hour drive to the airport from the OPs location. It is only 1.5 to BUF, that is where I fly out of hoping for a DING for December myself.

Hi all,
Sounds like a great thing, this 'ding'. How do you all find out about the dings? do you just keep checking the swa.com site or are you using one of those other sites that tell you when the price has dropped? Just wondering and wanting to get on the band wagon. :) We live in Phoenix and SW is has a hub here. Thanks for reading, looking forward to getting some good info.

You have to download the DING feature to your computer and then when one is released, if you have sound, you hear "ding", but the icon will be on your status bar and you can check the ding during the day. I have it loaded on my home computer and I'm not on everyday, so I know I miss things, but if I go home tonight and log on, I can still check to see if there is a ding available.

Go to the SWA website to download it.

Thanks for the info on cancelling and rebooking but talked to my DW and she said forget it....not worth taking the chance of losing our flights since we are taking my inlaws :grouphug: (5) so a total of 9 people for $180.00 was not worth it...:confused3 ......oh well what do I know being the DH:rotfl:

I agree, only one way tickets.

What?:confused3 Does she know people do this all the time? Does anyone out there know of anyone who cancelled an old ressie for a ding but couldn't book it? this has never happened to us but I guess theoretically it could.

If you do the dual window thing I suggested in the first response to this post you cannot "lose" your flights...because before you cancel the old flights you have the new seats on hold...that is why I always do it that way.

But if there are no opens seats on your flight - it will show as "Unavailable" - then the whole process is moot.

You can't get a refund if you cannot book the lower priced tickets.

I know. I tried.

I booked 8 people online in Feb, and the price just dropped $30 per person. I just went to my online account and clicked Change Reservation, and it walked me through the new pricing, and adjusted all 8 people on the spot (not needing to cancel and create a new reservation). As easy as it gets. :)

The remaining money became a credit to use with SW since it was non-refundable.

Were there available seats?

That is my only sticking point.

Grrr...:headache:

If you're talking about mine, then I assume so. I don't think I ever "lost" my seats in the process. I think the Ressie change only affected the price.

I believe with a DING, I would have to start all over, and follow the dual-browser advice above.

This sounds great and thank you SB in KY for explaining it so simply that even I can follow ;)

But now.... I need to know .... does this work even if you want to change your flights ... say to another day or another airport? I'm assuming yes, but just want to make sure
