I got something in the mail from Southwest to apply for a credit card for rapid rewards users. It stated that if you charge $2000 in the first 3 months then you can get 50,000 bonus credit point to use towards a flight and that currently, it covers possibly 2 round trip tickets. Has anyone done this and are able to confirm?

Many people of done it. If you do a search of this forum you'll see several threads concerning the very same offer that you have. Currently, 50,000 bonus points should get you 2 round trip tickets. However as the cost of flights rise, the number of tickets that you can get with those points will decrease.

You may even be able to get 3 flights with the 50,000 points. We did it. We're all flying to Disney for free! :cool1:

i just did this... applied for personal and business account. got both and did min spend... got 104K miles... did a bit more spend to get total of 110k miles and earned companion pass for 1 1/2 years. just redeemed for 2 tickets to mco over thanksgiving break 9peak wednesday- sunday)... and since i have companion pass and dh too with those 2 tickets i also got 2 tickets for kids tro come along too -- for just under 50K... would have had to use 200K miles if we flew on american.
:rotfl2:

akclayton...When did you receive this offer. I would like my husband to get the card, but I googled SWA and it is saying at this time: Offer 25,000 reward points and $1,000 spent in the 1st three months. Did you have a link to that site that I can't find. Thanks...I would love 50,000 points for 2 flights..... :thumbsup2

cmjaffe,

How long did it take for your 50k bonus points to post after your 2k in purchases?

The offer is still on their website southwest dot com. If you are interested, you should apply soon as I don't expect it to be there much longer (its been there for about 6 weeks so far and they usually only ran for a month in the past).

DH and I have done this a few times as well and currently have the companion pass. We went to key west in October and will be going to Las vegas in January:cool1: and we will have it for all of next year. It is an awesome deal.

We both applied and got the SWA Plus and Premier card so we both got 100,000 bonus points. Our plan is to transfer the points over to AirTran and fly to Punta Cana for very little (there's extra taxes to pay). We are putting off spending the $2k on DF's cards until after the 1st of the year so we can hopefully get the companion pass.

I believe the $2K must be spent within the first three months of opening the account in order to receive the 50,000 bonus miles.

I am not sure, but they may have stopped counting the bonus points toward the companion pass. A few weeks ago, I was 67% to a companion pass and now it only shows 10% and does not include the bonus 50,000 points.

I need to call to ask, but, anyone find this on their account too?

It is an awesome deal and I think I probably got 4 RT tickets out of it, SW card has the best value I have seen! I joined 1 year a go and have been solely charging on this card and have flown or have tickts to MCO from PDX for 2 twice and have also done a solo trip from Sea to Phoenix, the card is very good! Plus free bags.

I just booked (last weekend maybe) 4 round trip tickets from DTW to MCO for spring break costs of about 1200-1300$ (value)

I ended up being a hair short, I needed 59K and had 56K. (Note you also get points for spending in addition to the bonus.) So with the 40$ in fees, and the difference in points I purchased it ran 120$.

I did have enough for 7 of the 8 legs, but I bough the points difference instead of booking 1 person on cash for only 1 leg and 8 1 ways instead.

i have also been eyeing this....i better jump on it ...i assume the miles are good for awhile even if we don't use them this year?

We did it last year, both of us. Got 50K points each and will be using them shortly to book our next trip. Once we spent the minimum, the points were available within a few days.

Just an FYI that the point values are being changed and it will take more points to book a flight soon. I don't remember the specific dates as it varied by airline, but just take a look so that there is no sticker shock. It's not just SW, all the airlines are updating the cost of each point.

points do not expire. You are not getting miles, you get points toward the cost of the flight. Right now it's about 60 points per $, but per my previous post, that is changing soon.

thanks for the heads up on the points mm, still seems like a great deal

Here is what is posted on SWA site

Wanna Get Away® reward flight bookings made on or after March 31, 2014 will require 70 points per dollar, an increase from the 60 points per dollar that is currently required.
