What is a good price with Southwest from Flint or Detroit to MCO? Even Airtran from Detroit is almost twice what it used to be (we last flew in 2007). Right now Southwest is $159 one way nonstop from Flint. Can I expect to get a better price if I wait? For return flight to Flint on May 16, it is $186 on Southwest. May 15 seems to be a cut-off date for prices - prices go up May 16 for all airlines. Having never flown any other airline than Airtran, I don't know what is a good price. Can I expect the price to come down May 16? Not sure if it is typical for that date and beyond for prices to be higher or if they have not lowered them yet.

Airtran will no longer be flying from Flint when we go in May but they will be flying from Detroit. We are 45 minutes from Flint and about 2 hours from Detroit, so would rather fly from Flint. Southwest will be flying out of both Flint and Detroit. I'm hoping someone will have an idea of what is a good price with Southwest. Prices are far from the $89 one way fare with Airtran that we used to get.

I've been wondering the same. I've never flown SW because of the lack of non-stops from Detroit or Flint but with them taking over the Airtran routes I'm going to give them a shot at some point.

Right now fares for spring are higher across the board than I'm used to seeing; we got $202 r/t in Jan and $228 r/t in May (holiday weekend), but at this point if I saw a fare cheaper than $300 on any carrier other than Spirit for my April dates I'd book it. Like you I'd rather go out of Flint than Detroit but am willing to go where the cheaper fares take me. I live about the same distance from both airports, Flint is just the more pleasant overall experience.

You should check different airports with Allegiant as well. You could fly into Orlando Sanford or St. Petersburgh Clearwater and drive across to Orlando.

Allegiant doesn't fly from Detroit or Flint. The closest airport they serve is Toledo, Ohio.

For our Jan flights one way non stop has been sitting in 129-143 range. This is flying from Columbus, OH.

When I shopped flight from DTW I was seeing same thing. Also what I've noticed with flint for days I could price.

We flew AT from Flint last year, the week that spans April/May and paid $129 one way and $139 one way back from MCO, so Southwest prices don't seem that far off. I would MUCH rather fly out of Flint than Detriot.

We are flying out of Grand Rapids this year as I needed to use up AT vouchers otherwise I would be using Southwest from Flint.

Allegiant is flying out of Lansing (again), too. Not sure where the OP is located, but wanted to share this information.

Doesn't Allegiant fly out of Grand Rapids as well?

Yes it does! We usually fly out of Detroit as they were always cheaper for us than GR (we would spend the night and get free parking then at the hotel with the park and fly). Last Tuesday I was able to get our tickets on Airtran for $129 one way (both ways)! That with our Groupon for a limo ride to the airport will be a great way to start our vacation!

Flights are terrible right now! Last year I booked in Feb. for our August trip and paid $250 rt on Delta. Right now I'm looking at middle of Nov. and flights are $350 rt....not gonna happen when I need 6 tickets!

Last I checked both SW and AirTran weren't offering nonstops. It's going to be a while though before they release flights for Nov...right?

I live by Grand Rapids so I have been pricing Airtran out of Ford airport and it has been pretty consistent at about $142 nonstop each way. Ive been checking May as well as July. I have also noticed that the prices' change often from the weekends to during the week.

I don't fly out of MI, but I just wanted to say to check SW today because my particular city and flights took a huge drop (from 308 one-way to 100 one-way). We're flying Easter week in and out of Buffalo.

Well, I found out that patience and persistence pays off. I got Delta flights for $99 each way out of Detroit for May 8 - May 16 on Tuesday evening this week. Lucky us:cheer2:!! Total with fees was $187.80 round trip. I almost booked two days earlier at $160 each way - I about fell out of my chair when I saw the $99 price!! Saved almost $500 for the 4 of us.:dance3:

Awesome deal!

We are booked one way from Flint with SW in September, our return date isn't out yet. We paid $115 one way which I thought was great. Now just crossing our fingers that we can get a return flight for that price.
