One of my Southwest flights price dropped. I paid for EBCI on the original flight. What happens to EBCI if I change the flight to the new lower price?

So the put the difference back on my CC? Forgive me. This is the first time I do this with Southwest.

No, it is just a travel credit. For example, your current flight confirmation# is ABC123 and you changed it to a lower price and you now have a $50 credit. The next time you book a Southwest flight on the payment page there is a section to apply travel funds. You would input your conf# ABC123 and your name and it will apply $50 to the flight. Also it is tied to the original passenger. You can not use it for anyone else.

The credit is only for future air travel, it's not a refund. As mentioned you have to have your original booking number and I also believe that the credit has to be used within one year of the original booking date, doesn't matter when the flight is. I ran into this issue before and one of my credits had expired. FYI you can do it multiple times, each time you see it drop go and and modify, I've done it three times with one of my flights in November and I've ended up with over 100 dollars in credit.

Awesome! I was able to see the future travel fund on the Southwest site. I'll be sure to keep an eye on the price. Didn't know it can be changed more than one time. Great tip!

Don't forget as pp said, you have to use the credit within 1 year from the original booking. When I am booking a trip & have a credit to use, I try to book one way flights instead of a round trip. Then I book which ever leg is less with the credit. That way I can still get a full year to use a credit if that more expensive flight drops.

Yes, it can be changed more than once if there is an additional price drop. I have done this in the past.

Also while paying attention to that expiration date, keep in mind that when you use that credit to make a new reservation, all funds for that new reservation adopt that exp date of the credit. It will not extend the life of the credit if you were to cancel that new res.

So if I have a $100 credit, I will use it in a way that will minimize it's impact on newly added funds. I would book dh as a separate one way ticket and apply the credit to that. This way the other 3 of us have a new res with a 1 yr expiration date should we get another price drop.
I hope this makes sense.

However, f you booked on rapid reward points, those points go right back into your account. So it is a much better deal and easier to not forget about the "refund."

Yes!!!
Makes me love booking with points all the more. Plus if you need to cancel, the taxes paid by cc are refunded back to your cc. It's a win-win situation!!!
