Hi!

We're in Toronto and is heading to WDW in Aug and have found that flying out of southwest is a lot cheaper than flying out of Buffalo. Any difference in flying out of Detroit than BUffalo?

Also what does no plane change mean? Do we need to get off the plane and then reboard or just people come onto the plane? Thanks everyone!

Was just going over this as well. We go July and I booked MCO to BUF on SWA @ 109 each. Now to ge there on the day we want is $186 each. Way too much. So we are thinking of maybe going a day earlier, but looked at prices from Detroit and there is no non-stop by SWA but there is with Air Tran. And 70 bucks back via SWA as opposed to 109. Longer drive though.

No plane change means the flight stops in a city to pick up additional passengers. You do not need to get off the flight (in fact, with Southwest, you can switch your seat if a better one becomes available).

I too have booked out of Detroit instead of Buffalo. It's really hard to justify paying twice as much to fly on the days we want to.

I'm watching Buffalo's pricing really closely though because we really would rather fly from there. Thankfully it's easy and free to cancel and rebook flights with Southwest.

Note, SpiritAir charges for carry on bags + pre selection of seats + checked luggage and in flight sodas, water and snacks. Ice still remains free.

AirTran also has good fares from Detroit with 2 non stop filghts daily.
They charge for pre selection of seats and checked bags. In flight snack service is free.

Southwest discountinued their non stop flights from Detroit 2 years ago so all flights are a 1 stop. There is no charge for seat selection (they don't offer it), carry on bags, checked luggage or in flight snack service.

I have found that Southwest out of Detroit have less direct flights than Delta or Spirit. I have flown Spirit twice and Northwest(Delta) once. Delta is my first choice. Spirit has started even charging for carry on. Spirit never used to nickle and dime you but they do now. Southwest I know does not charge for luggage but unless I can fly direct I don't mind paying for a suitcase.

I decided to suck it up and pay more to fly out of BUF...it really is much more convenient for us.

I cancelled our flights out of Detroit and paid $200 more for direct flights out of Buffalo. I just couldn't justify the cost when it would add 5 hrs of drive time and 2+ hours to our flights. We've got two young boys so faster is definately better.

I don't blame you at all, faster is the key with kids.

As others have said, Southwest doesn't fly direct to MCO from DTW. We always fly from Detroit and lately, have been getting really good deals on Delta. They do charge for luggage but still have free seat selection and snacks. We paid $140 r/t for October.
We have also flown Spirit and AirTran. Spirit has not had any great deals lately from Detroit but AirTran is great to fly with.

WE have flown out of both Detroit, and Buffalo. Buffalo is a lot smaller which was kind of nice. I am not one to mind a big airport though. Funny how Buffalo is so much more expensive right now. When we went to WDW in 2008 it was cheaper on Airtran to fly out of BUF??? :confused3 I guess that I just lucked out.

We are going at the end of Aug and I am having trouble finding a deal that I am happy with. I am actually kicking myself because there was 2 different fares that I would have been very happy with, but I did not book them in time, and they are now gone :headache: I am trying not to stress too much, but had told DH that we may have to drive :lmao: He was like no way! :scared1:

It is a game now, :sad2: and I have to keep checking every day, and it is getting a little tiresome and very annoying!! It is actually putting a damper on our trip!

I don't mind paying for baggage & whatnot as long as the flight is cheaper than those that offer fno luggage fees. Go figure

I agree. I flew to MCO at the same time last year from BUF and round trip flights were only 150/person. THis year, that's the price of one way. I've booked Detroit to Orlando for 57 each way with the 25 off coupon, Hoping some good BUF ding fares come up so I don't have to drive so far.

When are you going? And when did you book?

I'm going Aug 18th coming back the 27th. It seems that most flights from Detroit are 70 each way which comes to 57 after the code. I see 70 bucks for most months.

So you must being taking flights with stops. We really want non-stop because of our 3 kids, and we like to just get to WDW ASAP! :cool1: Oh and with the $25 off is that applied to each passanger? And is it the little debbie coupon I have been hearing about?? Thanks

I'm taking a flight with stops but no plane change. Not the greatest but for the price, you can't go wrong. The 25 off was for every single passenger. It's the visit florida coupon.

We tried to get that coupon but it said for US only- how did you get around that?

I ended up booking Delta direct flights. I payed a little more for better timed flights. $210 each RT. I could have got flights for $170 RT, but I did not like the times:sad2:

I too have been watching SW prices from BUF-MCO. I've been compulsive and I probably check 10 times a day. After reading this thread I checked out flying from Detroit. I can't believe the price difference. Now I'm really checking into flying out of Detroit instead of Buffalo. Yeah, the drive is longer and there aren't any direct flights but, the price difference is $300. The only thing is if we fly out of Detroit we will have to spend the night before at a hotel and pay for park & fly. Can anyone offer up suggestions for Detroit hotels with park & fly options? I'm thinking that having to do this might negate the savings and ease of flying out of Buffalo..... My compulsiveness continues......
