Southwest - New Rules for Ticketless Travel Funds Coming January 28, 2011

We may have a problem come this January. We booked our trip with plans to take a close friends daughter. Theres a strong chance she may not be able to go and most likely would not in the next year (they are moving out of country). If that happens we'd take someone else but SW won't allow transfer of ticket to someone else. So maybe out the cost of her ticket.

Yes. That would be the unfortunate result.

That is true. You will be out the cost of the ticket. However, maybe you could find a nice way to let the friends know that you have the TTF and if their daughter is going to fly anywhere that SWA flies, they can use them. MAYBE, if they used them, they would reimburse you. If they used them and didnt' reimburse, you would be no worse off than letting the TTF expire without use.

Help!

I have $560 worth of travel funds that are set to expire on Weds, Nov 16. They are divided between me and my 3 other family members.

I would like to use them for our vacation next summer (July 2012). Is there any way for me to do that? I know I can ask for an extension of 6 months.

For the $50 extension fee, do I pay that for each travel fund that I have? (There are 5 separate funds, two for me and one for each of my family)

AND -- if I call Southwest in February to have the funds extended, will they give me six months from that time, or will they only extend six months from the original expiration date?

Kathy

They can only be extended for six months from the expiration date, so yours would have to be used for travel before the middle of May. You will have to pay the extension fee for each fund separately.
