My family does not fly much, but last year we got a great SW rate to Orlando and now we are spoiled (we live within a 12 hour drive of Orlando). Our flight dates opened Friday May 26th and by Saturday, May 27th (today) the flight had already gone up by $10.00 and the Fun Fares for the return times I want are now "unavailable". I'm in a panic because I REALLY want to fly, but the current rate is out of our budget.

Any advice from South West Frequent Fliers out there? What should I do? :confused3

Thanks to all!!

My family is playing the same game. Does anyone know what time the Tuesday sale starts? My sister and I are prepared to stay up until midnight Monday night if that's the time!

We're in the same boat. They just opened Sept 13-Oct 27. They don't even have internet specials for our dates yet. They want to see how many bookings they get at the high fares first. If they don't fill it up to their satisfaction, the internet specials will pop up. Those usually pop at anywhere from $99 to $129. Then after that you get the $49 special. Sometimes they'll throw the $49 out off the bat. My advice is to keep watching. But keep in mind there may not ever be a $49 special on your days/flights. Last year, by the time the $49 popped up, our dates were already over their target booking percentage so we never truly ever got a shot at our flights for $49. $99 and $129 were the cheapest we saw them respectively.

Last year for our dates, fun fares were still available up until about three weeks before we left. The Internet Special rates were available, but for our dates they never dropped below $99 on the way back and $129 on the way there. But there was still a flight available both days up until about a week before we left. Then about a week before we left, everything went to the nonrestricted expensive fare. Right now it's over $1100 for a family of 4 from here using the fun fares. That's too expensive. I can do it for less than $900 on Delta. We can drive it for about $200. We've driven it. It's not quite as bad a drive as you think.

You can also download Ding. Sometimes you get offers for ding fares that are really good. But we never got a Ding to Orlando last year.

My advice is to wait and see if those internet specials pop for you. You have to keep checking.

Just to let you know that they have yet to have any sale specials for after June 30th. I have seen very few special for Orlando from any airport in the latest DING's. If you can't afford the rates then wait for specials but plan on flying. The huge discounts they have had in the past will be few and far between.

Good Luck

It may drop again. When I was looking for seats for my trip next month, they had a "sale" and the price was around $270 (PIT/MCO). I didn't know what to do either. The day after the "sale" was over, it dropped to around $240. I was still thinking about it. The next day, they went down to $177 (the lowest level became available), I jumped on it!

I suppose I'll wait up tonight just in case - I'm SO optomistic!! 10 flights show (and I have read this may be incorrect) unavailable already. My question is - when they do add the sales, do they add more times available?? Apparently I need to get used to driving and if the sale comes along, it will be a bonus! Now to break the news to my husband! He'll need more time to adjust!!
