Southwest flying on points can you get a credit if it lowers?

I have never flown Southwest but I have read that if your fare lowers you can get a credit. Does that also work if you are flying with points and your flight lowered can you get a points credit?
My flight when I booked it was 7,640 and now it's only 5,400. Just didn't know how that would work?

Just do a "Change Flight" and choose the same flight. The difference in points will be redeposited in your account.

Will that also work if I were to switch to a different flight that same day?
All the flights have dropped and so I'm looking at a flight that has better times then what I booked.

Yes. We switch as soon as we see a better/cheaper flight.

My October flight to MCO came down as well. I made the change yesterday and over 9,000 points was redeposited into my account. I love a Southwest!

I just changed ours too but I have a question. There are 3 of us traveling, each with our own confirmation number. I rebooked at the lower point value and the difference went back into my rapid reward points balance. So, say 2000 points went back in off of each reservation for a total of 6000 points. When I use those points in the future do I have to use 2000 for me, 2000 for daughter, and 2000 for other daughter? Or can I use all 6000 on myself? I know that if you are paying cash, the unused travel funds has to be used by ther person whose flight was changed. Does it work the same way with points?

You can't combine points from multiple accounts for one ticket. You could book a ticket for yourself from your daughter's account but it has to be for the total amount needed.

I have made multiple reservations at times for different people using my reward points, as well as using points from my mother's reward account. Each time, we have to cancel a person, the points go back into the original reward account, but they still can be used for anyone in the future. They are not like using cash, and getting a credit which must be used later for the original person whose name the reservation was in.

Thanks for the replies. Thats what I was hoping for. All of the points came out of my RR account so rebooking the flight gave me just about enough points to pay for a 1 way ticket in the future

Right - the points go back to the account they came from.

Ok I am booked for Oct also into Nov and am going to extend my trip to stay in Fl and leave from Ft Lauderdale instead and at a later date...I booked on points...so I cancel the MCO flight and points return and then book the FLL flight is that correct... thank you....

No need to cancel anything. Just do a "change reservation/flight".

Thank you. Wow I hate to cancel, I got a good price but a week at the beach in Hollywood...is just tooo tempting to pass up...well at least it is free points.

I've never booked with SW points before but I should be receiving my 50,000 bonus points from my SW credit card soon.

In the past when I booked flights with SW, I would book 2-one way tickets instead of a round trip ticket because more than likely I'd take advantage of the no penalty flight changes at some point (better price, different day, different airport, different time) and it would make me nervous having to "play" with both flights so I'd just do each leg individually.

With points can I change one leg of my flight without jeopardizing the other? Right now my flight down is a little outrageous but the flight home is "reasonable." If I booked them together and the flight down goes down but the flight home goes up, do I have the option to only change my flight down?
