Hey fellow Dis'ers! I just wanted to let you all know if you are planning to fly SW airlines any time around Thanksgiving, you want to book ASAP! We were supposed to fly to Orlando Sunday Dec 1st and all the Wanna Get Away fares are completely booked...out of all 3 cities near me! I even spoke with an agent that said they got a letter from corporate stating that all flights that day pretty much sold out within 3 hours when the booking window opened this week...yikes! As it happens, there were good flights on Saturday so we had to add a day to our trip...how sad :thumbsup2

Lol...this is true! However, by the time we paid for a more expensive flight and baggage fees, it was cheaper to stay an extra night!!

There is actually a thread about this on the Transportation board.

From what the OP was told it seems the agents at SW are telling different reasons for the 12/1 lack of Wanna Get Away Fares. I was up and on line at 5:45 am CST to book our Thanksgiving Weekend flights. At no time was a flight price available for our flight at the Wanna Get Away on 12/1 (was checking LaGuardia, Phoenix and Orlando). I called immediately and was told it would be fixed within two hours. Then I called later to be told it would be fixed later in the afternoon. Called again and told they were having technical difficulty and it would be corrected by evening. I went to bed at 1 am and no Wanna Get Away flights had been available for our route. Woke up at 6 am the next day and still nothing. Called SW again to be told a memo had been distributed saying there would be no Wanna Get Away Fares for 12/1.

I am not sure if other routes sold out on 12/1 but for us at least the Wanna Get Away fare was never available. Luckily I was able to play around a bit with our schedule to make it work so I wouldn't have to pay the crazy fares listed on 12/1.

I did check other airlines but SW was cheapest still (when I changed our plans a bit) and I did have $200 in SW gift cards to boot.

Others reported "sold out" fares being listed all day but I think many of those did get corrected. Who knows. The whole thing was a bit crazy. Hopefully it isn't a sign of things to come.

Very interesting! I will check out the thread! She seemed so certain they sold out that I just took her at her word....silly me! Kinda like getting Disney news from a bus driver!

:rotfl2: Made me laugh!

Well the same is true for me. I took the word of the CSR who said there would be no Wanna Get Away Fares for 12/1. There are probably various versions out there.

There are a threads about 12/1 and flights being "Sold Out". All I know for sure is the cost of a flight for us on 12/1 was insane and there was no way I would pay those prices!!

We're going to Disney Nov 26th and coming back Dec 2nd. My wife checked flights in the morning, found one early afternoon for $129. When I checked a little while later that flight was over $250. A late afternoon flight that was our second choice was sold out by the time I got to it.

I booked my flight in the afternoon and told one of our friends (who is going with us) to book hers. Within minutes of me booking my flight the cost on it jumped up $50 so she had to pay more.

It's crazy.

Prices are definitely going up quickly for some of the routes. The flight I ended up booking has gone up $52 a person in about 24 hours which isn't nearly as much as the one you mentioned but it definitely is crazy!!

On Monday I checked fares and booked from PHL to MCO. The fare going down for 11/26 was $161 and coming back on 12/4 it was $114. We had 50,000 points so I was pretty happy with what we got! On Tuesday I checked again just out of curiosity and the flight down had already jumped to $273. So I am glad I booked on Monday!
