Southwest fare dropped--help

Our return fare dropped about $20 from the time I booked it. (There are 5 of us--so it's a good savings!) I booked our return flight separately because I recall reading here that it would be better for changes if the fares dropped on one segment, which is our case. Now, how do I change it? Please help!

It's actually pretty simple. Just give them a call & they will give you a SW credit. You'll have up to one yr from original purchase date to use the funds. They are making a change to the policy, re: credit to original purchaser versus person on the confirmation number but I can't really speak to it.

I agree, call! They'll walk you through it. Easy peasy. Call soon because the prices change, often and quickly. I changed our flights once and immediately after we did, the price shot up!

I had to do it online if it was an online deal (which mine was) it's actually really easy, you just need your confirmation #. Put it in on change reservation.

BTW,you are able to change just one leg of a 2 part flight, I've done it several times on both of our upcoming trips, one leg just keeps going down.

If it is an internet super-saver fare, you'll have to change it online. It's really very easy. From the home page go to the "change flight" link on the left (blue button). Enter your confirmation # and passenger names. Then select the same flight again. A screen will come up with the new price and the amount of credit that will be in your account. You can apply the credit on a future flight within one year.

sorry, it's 1 year from the original booking date, so if you booked flight today (paid for it) it's 1 year from today.

The last time I rebooked a leg of a flight with Southwest the CS representative helped me get it done seamlessly. I'd only called to make sure I was about to make the change correctly, and she offered to stay on the phone with me while I got everything ready on the website to buy the new Ding fare for our return flight, and then she cancelled our existing reservations for the return flight *right* before I put the confirmation number in on the website to use the new credit on my account and buy the Ding fare. This limited the amount of time I was in "limbo" without a return flight and she could also see that there were still seats left on the plane that could get purchased with the Ding fare and that it was unlikely to disappear while I was in the process of buying it.

I felt a lot better doing it that way, since I am a horrible worrywart. Anyone rebooking to get a SW credit on their account, it would be worth a try to call the 800 number and see if you can get a CS agent who will help you out like that and decrease the chances that the flight will go back up while you are in the process of canceling part of it and then re-booking.

It's amazing how the flights varia from day to day. I booked a total of 6 flights for Oct. and Dec. and we have a credit of almost $185.00 for each of us to use by the end of next April.

Is there a limit to the number of times you can change SW reservations without incurring a fee? I made my reservation on line, then chose a cheaper flight because I immediately realized I didnt choose the non-stop flight, and it credited my credit card (about $9).

Now the return flight is about $11 cheaper, but it won't let me "change" flights on line. Its actually picking the same flight with the cheaper flight! Should I try "cancel" for the return flight and re-book it??

I never had a problem changing my flight on southwest and getting the cheaper flight. I don't know why you are having a problem? I usually log in and then select my fight to be changed and then change it.

Now I have an $11 credit for a future trip - within the next year! Yippee!

I hope they continue dropping
