Southwest fare drop

i just checked the Southwest site and my flight to Orlando in October is down $100. I made the reservations using Southwest points. Will I be able to change my reservation to the lower rate and recoup my points? Is this possible? If yes, does anyone know how to do this? Thank you so much!

Yes. Sign into your rapid rewards account.
click on change air reservation
pick the flight you want (in pts, not dollars) it can be the same flight
difference in points will automatically be added to your RR acct.

Yes - you will get a refund of the points into your account. I just did it today and saved approximately 1,800 miles

Thanks, just went in and made the changes. Automatically added 9,960 point to my account.

Question: I had Early-Bird Check In on my original reservation. I don't need to buy that again on my new ticket, correct?

how are you guys seeing how many points you used to originally book the flight? i can't remember that far back and it doesn't seem to show how many points i redeemed per flight...i just can't tell if i will gain any points back?

Go thru the change ticket process. When you selct a new flight it will show you what the difference between the new ticket and the old one is. If the number is in () then you know you will be getting a refund of miles.

The Points history for your account also shows all the redemptions you did and they include the confirmation number, so they are easy to match up.

The EB check-in only needs to be purchased once. You can confirm this by looking for the EB logo (in red) when you pull up your confirmation.

I thought I was doing well to find a cheaper fare for our October flights and to get the refund credits. I hoped to use the credits to buy tickets for October 2013. I was unclear on the expiration date of the credits and finally emailed Southwest today. They said the credit had to be used and travel completed by one year from the original purchase date. Can't believe I missed that little glitch. We have no plans to fly anywhere else between now and May (when I originally bought the tickets) so I guess I didn't save any money after all.

Has that been your experience with them? I guess I should have researched the issue more.

That has always been their policy. However, it used to be that you could transfer your credits to someone else. Now the credits have to be used for the same person. So really the only reason to cancel and rebook is if you know that you will be traveling again on SW within 1 year of when you booked your tickets.

At least now if something comes up and you do need/want to fly SW, you have some credit to use with them
