So if I separate my husband and my reservation that works fine for the flight to Orlando since I can print the boarding passes at home.

Now, for the return flight since I will not have a printer, just my laptop, I will not be able to print boarding passes online. Would this mean that my husband and I would need to then check in separately at the airport?

I would like to be in the "A" boarding group but am not sure if the process would be worth it since my flight from Buffalo leaves at 8:00 AM and we generally get to the airport around 6:00 AM. I have never had a problem with getting into the first boarding group but am wondering if that may change with the ability of people to print out passes online. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thank you.

Yes, you need to check in separately at the airport, which is really no different than if you were both on the same reservation. You both have to show ID.
You can also go to the Dolphin's business center and print your boarding passes out there. They are open 24/7. There is a cost, but I don't know what it is.

I'm so glad you all are discussing this. Based on what I've read & advice from Gail (thanks!), I've decided to just check-in at the airport when we leave out of Austin. We plan to arrive at the airport 2-2 1/2 hours early.

I have some questions though, for anyone who can answer. Our flight to MCO leaves at 8:00 am. I would assume this would be an originating flight, wouldn't you think? By the same token, our flight home leaves at 2:30 pm from MCO. Wouldn't this probably be a connecting flight, & therefore our chances of sitting together would be somewhat less? We have five in our group, two of which are children (8 & 11) who haven't flown before. We would be satisfied with a 2/2/1 scenario.

Or you could purchase a portable printer. I bought a Cannon BJC-85 printer for my trips. It is very small, hooks easily to your laptop, is very light, and allows you to print on the road. You can even buy a battery for it to use without plugging it in and a scanner cartridge to convert it to a sheet fed scanner. I bought mine on Ebay for $50 and it is the best money I have spent for traveling.

Most flights out of Orlando for Southwest originate from Fort Lauderdale or Tampa.

Most, but not all. I have yet to have one that did not originate from BDL direct to MCO or PVD to MCO or MCO to BDL or MCO to PVD. They were all empty birds when we boarded.

I would think it an originating flight, but the best way to find this out is to call SWA.
