If you have a flight with connections do you need to do on line check in for both legs?

No, when you check-in for the first flight it will also check you in for any additional flights. If you have separate flight numbers, you will get separate boarding passes and numbers.

If you're changing planes, make sure you get a boarding pass for each "leg" of your flights. For whatever reason, my computer didn't print out the 2nd boarding pass and when I got to the airport in the middle, the gate attendant wasn't amused that I didn't have the right boarding pass. :confused3 They got me straightened out, but it coulda shoulda woulda been simpler if my puter had cooperated to begin with.

Just a side note....
Our upcoming SW round trip fight, Oak-MCO, has one change of planes with less than an hour layover both coming and going. Because I was not wanting to chance not being in front of a phone or computer to do online check in, especially on our last full day at DW, I looked into Early Bird check in. It did cost $12.50 per person each way, but after I found out that the early check in was for BOTH legs of EACH FLIGHT! decided it was well worth it, especially since we were lucky enough to have booked with points to begin with.
