Southwest....cancelling vs. changing

We have a SW flight booked for October and we need to change our flights to March. EBCI is not an issue.

Flights for March will open up in a few days, and I was wondering if it's better to change a flight from October to March, or is it better to cancel the flight now and get credits we can use to book our flight with in March.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to one or the other? Thanks!

I would definitely think it would an advantage to wait until the March flights open and then change my flight - it would be easier and all you have to do is pay for any increase in air fare or you will receive a credit at that time.
