If I book non-refundable flights for me, my wife and my parents all on one reservation and we cancel, does Southwest put the future travel funds in one account under my name or 4 accounts under each traveller's name?

Four Accounts, each under the travellers name, to be used for that traveller only, within a year after the travel date.

Somebody correct me if I got something wrong :)

You have it correct, SWA travel credits can no longer be transferred to others.

I think it it one year from the purchase date; not the travel date.

The travel using travel credit must be completed by the orginal purchase date. For example. If you bought the tickets on June 15, 2011 you must complete your travel by June 14,2012 so your return flight must be dated no later than Jun 14, 2012.

True, credits cannot be transferred to another person, but I am not sure that those credits are specific to indiviual travellers--but maybe just specific to whoever paid the bill...In my situation, I had booked travel on southwest for myself, my son, and his girlfriend but had to cancel our trip when my son and his girlfrined couldn't get off work. Not that it matters, but I booked each way seperately). Just under a year later, I booked a new trip for myself, DH, and my other 2 kids (not including the one from the previous trip and not including the girlfriend). I was able to apply the entire credit to my new trip even though the itinerary didn't include 2 of the original travelers. I hope that makes sense.

When we cancelled my daughters ticket that we paid for on our credit card. we were told she was the only one that could use the travel funds. When I tried to book with her travel funds the SWA sight wouldn't let me. When I phonedSWA customer service they told me only the person whose name is on the ticketless funds could use them. I tried but SWA said no.

They are tied to the name on the ticket, not who purchased the ticket.

That changed earlier this year, it is now tied to the person on each ticket. Most airlines follow this. It prevents people from selling the credits.
