Southwest--Can you buy tickets for kids in your name for rewards points?

Can you buy tickets for your kids in 'your' name to get the rewards points?? We are so close on getting a free flight, and buying our kids tickets would put us over the 16-points.

Any help?

No, everyone has to have their own rewards #. You can't use your name and number on their ticket, the system would flag it as a duplicate.

Nope. There are new regulations in place that require all tickets to be purchased in the ticketholder's name. When you book tickets, the TSA requires information about the passenger that must match the information on the ticket.

If you buy the ticket "in your name" you must use it.

You can't buy tickets for anyone else and have the mileage credited to your frequent flyer account for any airline (although in some programs, you can later pay to transfer miles).

Eh, technically I think that you could get away with it, but it would require splitting the family onto separate flights and coaching your kids to lie, also, if you got caught it would be ugly, so I don't think it's worth it.

However, don't forget that you can pick up additional credits at hotels, rental cars and restaurants; if you are close you can probably use that to put yourself over the top. Alamo is doing a triple credit promotion right now that lasts until 2/15 -- you could rent a small car for the weekend in your home town and pick up 1.5 credits that way.
