The Southwest baggage will be operational by mid-January. This information has come from the planning department. All software has been updated and is currently being installed.

I am sorry I didn't phrase it right. I am talking about the baggage pick up at the resort for Southwest. By mid-January the software will be installed to allow you as guests, and passengers of Southwest, to check in your luggage at the resort instead of carrying it with you to the airport. I believe it has something to do with participating airlines. My knowledge of that part of the operation is novice so hopefully I explained it enough so another, familiar with that phase of the operation can explain it better.

Okay, so, it sounds like Southwest is about to become a participating airline! SW passengers checking out of Disney-owned resorts will, by making arrangements in advance (as do the passengers of current participating airlines), be able to check in for their flights at the Resort Airline Checkin counter and at the same time check all luggage through to their destination airports!

I suspect RAC will be testing SW before the official announcement. I suggest SW passengers stop by the RAC desk a day before their return flight and ask.

Thanks guys, for your help. That info was picked up in the meeting I attended Wednesday.

Before we get all excited, I want to confirm one piece of information with Southwest and BAGS........ currently, if a guest checks in online with any of the other participating airlines, they CANNOT use the Resort Airline Check-in desk.

I just want to make sure that y'all can still get your "A" boarding passes at 24, and still be able to check bags at the RAC desk.

My guess is that Southwest is wise to this, and will make modifications to allow, but we shall see if and when this all does happen.

I know this has been brought up in the past, so we will be anxiously awaiting your update Tyler. Thanks!!!

SW is using a different company, Bags To Go http://www.baggagecheckin.com for offsite checkin in some Las Vegas locations.

It looks like they are using the same kioshes that are used in the airport. Those give the guest the option of reprinting a BP that was already issued.

I agree with Tyler's point, some guests might not find RAC as attractive if they have to forgo checking in 24 hours in advance and lose the opportunity of getting a "A" BP.
