Southwest and cheaper fares after purchase

Hi everyone--

I keep reading about how, if you purchase tickets from Southwest, and then get a lower fare, they will give you a credit. Does this only work with the "refundable anytime" tickets, or does it even work with the "non-refundable" tickets (much more within my price range)??

Is the "credit" a credit towards a future ticket, or do you get cash back? Is there a "change fee" you have to pay to change to a lower fare? I guess I'm just confused because I'm used to "regular" airlines where you have to pay to do anything!!

Thanks for your help!!

Hi, I can't help you out. Just subscribing because I would like to know the answer as well!

Any flight that you book, including the cheapest, will allow you to cancel and receive a credit for a future flight with NO penalty.

You can also change it to a lower fare on the exact same flight, if it becomes available, or a different flight, and receive a credit for a future flight for the amount of the difference, with NO penalty.

The fully refundable fares, if cancelled or changed, will refund to your credit card with no penalty.

Isn't SWA great! I wish the other airlines would think like them. Don't the other airlines have to wonder why they are losing so much money and SWA is doing pretty good?

Wow! I never knew that! I think I'll be flying SW a lot more from now on!! Thanks for the info!

I love SW.........I have a $240.00 credit just WAITING to be used from our trip for four (DH, myself, and two DS's) on 12/10 thru 12/17. When I initially made the ressies the fare was $79.00 OW ( which was still good) then went down to $49.00 OW so I had a credit for the trip down for $120.00. Then, lo and behold, the return trip also went down to $49.00 about two weeks before the trip, so, now I have another $120.00 credit. Looks like DH and I will just HAVE to make an extra trip to the World this year to take care of those credits!!!!!!

If I already have booked flights and and a cheaper comes out for my flights...how do I get the credit? Do I have to cancel my flights and then rebook???

On the SWA website, look under "travel planner". You'll find a place to click for "change reservation." You'll enter your conf. # and name and it will list your flights. You can then select which one(s) you want to change. Pretty darn easy! :)
