Have any of you flown Southwest with your gown? What was your experience? I don't want to check it but I'm not sure if it's too big to count as a carry on? TIA!

If you get a real good rate buy it a ticket and strap it in.

Call them I think and have seen them as carry-ons . SWA has the best customer service of all and this will be understood.

I fly southwest all the time. I had my dress taken down by my inlaws in the rv. I don't think you will have a problem though taking it as a carryon... I intended to because I didn't want to let it out of my sight. I like the idea of finding a great rate and giving it its own seat

I work for SWA (Southwest Airlines) and we don't have anywhere to hang the dress. We will try to do our best to find a good place for it. Get online 24hrs before your flight and print your boarding pass. That way you have a better chance to get A boarding group and board first. You will have a better chance to put in an overhead bin. I always try to help the brides out and find a special place for their dress. I will soon be doing that myself but the only problem is I have to get on the plane last, so hopefully I can find a place to put my dress.

Maybe I will be your Flight Attendant and I can make sure your dress is taken care of. When are you going?

I don't mean to hijack (oh gosh...that sounds like a really tasteless pun!) this thread, but I had a quick question for Tammy:

How good is SW about pre-boarding passengers with little kids? I flew with my kids (2 & 5) a few months ago (on another airline) and it was horrible! Not once did I get to pre-board...evidently only those with super-extra-VIP-business-gold status or whatever got to get on first and even that was lightening fast!

We got a great deal through SW Vacations...but the only caveat was it is a paper ticket and we were told we HAD to check in at the airport (not online!)...so I'm sure we'll be in "C" boarding group! I'm just worried as I had to fight the other airline so that my 5yo didn't have to sit all alone by himself!!

I flew SWA with my dress...

We checked in 24 hours in advance, and I was so anal that i got to the airport so early that we were the first people in line. After the pre-boarders went on, we did. I folded the garment bag in three's, and that way it went easily through the x-ray machine, and when we got on board, it went in the overhead compartment with ease and with room to spare. I traveled with 6 other people, we all had 2 carry-on's so, we put everything in one overhead and surrounded my dress with it, so it was a positive experience, i think that was the only thing with the wedding I stressed about. but it worked out great. then after the wedding, since i had an extra suitcase from all of the wedding stuff, i stuffed the dress in the suitcase and checked it.

I know, and THANK YOU!!! I have preboarded for every trip I have taken for 4 and 1/2 years and I will cry when DS turns five and I can't preboard anymore. Maybe I should just have another baby!

Thanks Tammy! I usually try to stay as near the gate as possible (without letting the little ones get in the way of those deboarding and the staff!).

Do you know of a good time to look for a ticket when they will be cheap? I am living in MS and I have heard you can get tickets about 89 roundtrip with SWA - I looked and so far it is 238.. So, maybe you could help me.

Go to the Southwest website and sign up for "Ding"... then check every morning and every afternoon for the special fares. Sometimes it's frustrating, but when you find a really great fare, it's worth it..

Thanks for the info! Our wedding is on 9/30/06 and our flight is on 9/27/06 out of Providence. Please let it fit lol I will freak if it has to be checked and then gets lost!!
