Southwest Airlines Credit Card Offer

Ok I signed up. I am hoping that I get it soon! How long does it take to get the points in your account? My flights open up in June i think

Any hints for convincing my DH he needs to do this too? We ONLY fly SW.

I signed up this morning, and he is hesitant.... he says we don't need two new credit cards. BUT we're not going to use these and just pay the minimum... we'd use them and pay the balance every month...

What about canceling? If he doesn't want another CC (we have 4 with zero balances, and one with a zero % we'll pay off before the zero is gone) can we purchase something and then cancel the card?

It seems that the $69 is assessed in the first billing cycle, so we can't avoid that, right?

Thanks!

No i don't believe you can't avoid the initial 69 yearly fee. they apply it to you upon approval..

I too have 4 credit cards

3 of those with a 0 balance and one with 0% apr for 18 months that I put part of the upcoming disney trip on.

As far as convincing your husband to get the card ask him if he wants $800+of flights for just the $10... 9/11 security fee... that should help.

Really, it's several hundred dollars worth of flights for either $69 or $99, plus the 9/11 fee. If you don't plan on keeping the card, you still have to add in that annual fee!

I have two credit cards with zero balances, and then this one. Once we use all the points, I will probably cancel this one. Really, it was gotten for the perks!

We signed up for the card and have been using it at times. We have about 53,000 points right now.

We are going to DLR in November. If we fly out of Minneapolis it would cost us about $1800 for our family of 5. I looked into SW out of KC (about another 2 hours from Minneapolis from where we live.) We have almost enough points for everyone to fly for only the small 9/11 charge.

I'm hoping to take someone to DL with me next year, so if I sign up, do any of you know if I use one free flight for me and one for the other person (a sibling, not a spouse or child)? Since this will be a surprise trip, it won't work to tell the other person to sign up for the card "just because."

Oh, and how long do you have until the flights (or is it points) expire? I need them for April next year (we'd be back by April 17th).

Thanks!

It's a steal it's such a good offer for me..i did it 4 months ago.. i mean i have excellent credit so wasn't worried about a hit for getting the card.. some might think of that first..

Anyone have any information on these questions? Thanks!

To use the points:

Log into the Rapid Rewards account, if you didn't have one when you opened the card, call southwest to create the RR account. It's a little bit longer process, but they're really helpful.

Once you see the full points in the account, book your flight. Then add the names of persons flying. Don't forget, you'll need their full name, age, and address. You can book flights for anyone as long as you have their info.

hrslvr142: It will continue to be on your account for 7 years, even though you paid it off. It'll show a paid status, but still be on the negative side of things. There's not much you can do, but you can try contacting the collector to see if they'll remove it. I've had companies remove stuff after paying the balance off, and other companies they won't do anything about it.

It affects you, but not as badly as if it wasn't paid off. You can check your score through each individual credit agency. There's often times discount codes given on the creditboards.com. It's also a good site to post about this kind of thing.

Once you get the points in your account, how long are they good for?

1. You can book a flight for anyone using your points. You don't even have to be going on the trip.

2. Southwest points currently do not expire. Just keep up with the program to make sure they don't change that in the future.

Since Southwest and Airtran are in the process of merging, can the rewards be used to book Airtran also? We only have an Airtran here in Rochester, Southwest is in Buffalo.

Does anyone know if you can upgrade to the premium card? I received the offer for the $69 card and got 20,000 points. I would be willing to go to the $99 card if they would give me the extra points. Any ideas?

anyone have a link for this ?

No link necessary. It is right on the home page at southwest.com. I filled it out and got an immediate answer. I figured it would be a couple days but it took less than 30 seconds for approval. I believe it said the cards should arrive within 2 weeks.
