Southwest Airlines 2 free flights credit card offer-What's the catch?

You have to have one. That is how you get your tickets. They put points in your rewards account and Southwest converts them into awards and gives them to you.

Do you have to have a rewards number? The application asked for your rewards # so I was wondering if that is optional.

In the past they gave you enough points for round trip tickets anywhere they fly. They aren't saying that now.. If they give points and SW doesn't convert them to awards, I would guess you would use them for one ways, and pay for the return. Until this happens no one will know.

Another question - I don't think anyone's asked it yet. Assuming the rewards go to the new "points" system, what would happen if I don't have enough points for my 2 round trip tickets? Can I just pay the difference?

You will have a one time chance to roll your points back to credits.

i didn't put in a reward # when I applies for the credit card. I got approved right away. Does that mean that I won't get the 2 R/T tickets because I don't have the rewards account?

If you don't have a rewards account, they won't have a place to deposit your rewards. Also, our RR#s are printed right on our cards. I'd sign up for your RR account now and then give Chase a call and see if they can add that info to your account.

Thanks to this board, we knew to apply for 2 cards, one in my name, one in DH name. We both got instant approval Monday evening. I have online banking with Chase (not bank accounts, but Disney CC, etc). so tonight, 48 hours later, I went online to my Chase banking and I see the new SW card information there (how high credit line is, etc). I think it is for MY card. The Chase online only works for the accounts with my name on them, the way it is set up right now. I assume DH is also all set up, he just never does bill paying online (or anywhere else :rotfl:)

4 RT tickets, that will be sweet. We loved SW already...... now even more so.

I had the impression that was to finish out if you needed more points for an award. I wonder if they will let you do that, if you didn't already have some points before the 1st.

When I called and talked to Chase after I used our new cards I asked about the points/awards thing. The rep told me that if I got points, that I could still roll them back one time. So, that's what one rep told me. I don't know that we'll know for sure until after 3/1 and the changes start happening. :confused3

Regardless, I suspect that even after 3/1, they will still give "awards" with the old rules attached rather than points. The application states "awards" not points. But, only time will tell.

One thing I have always found about anything to do with SW and Chase..Chase doesn't seem to know much about anything. I always go to the SW rewards people. I'm not picking on Chase, it's no different with any of the people that SW has giving them points. Chase has always given points, and SW was who converted them.

You are right though, we won't know for sure about anything, until after the 1st. It would be nice if they allow people to decide which program to go with, even if only a one time deal.

When you applied, and were either approved or not, did you go from the application screen, and then another screen telling y ou one way or the other?
I need to know-I got a blank screen when I hit 'submit'- nothing there at all.
I called Chase cs, she looked, could find no record of me applying, took my info and said they'd look and call(2 days ago)
I think my app. never went through- what do you think?
If I re-apply,what happens if I get approved for 2 cards? will I have to pay the 59.00 twice?
I really want to try for this offer.....am thinking of applying again, on a diff. computer.....

you know- the link I found earlier to apply, looks a bit different from the one supplied here on this thread. I wonder what I found? the page looks the same, the app looks the same.....should I be ordering a fraud alert? oh boy......

For me, a screen came up after I hit submit, that we had been approved.

But, when I applied for the 2nd card, I went in under another browser. I use a MAC, so I used Safari and then Google Chrome. Otherwise I got an error screen when I tried to apply for the 2nd card, that said there was a problem with my application, and to resubmit. (There was no problem.)

There are 5 in my family flying from L.A. to Orlando this summer, so if I can get 4 free tickets I am willing to to try almost anything. I don't have a rewards number and I am not ready to make flight reservations yet. If I make a one way reservation for my daughter ( because she flies back and forth to school) and pay under my husbands name and get him a rewards # and then I make another one way reservation for her and pay using my name so I can get a rewards # so we both can apply for the Southwest cc, will this work? Our summer dates are still up in the air so I just want to make sure before I make the ressie. I read the fine print regarding the cancelation policy, but I would like to hear from someone who has canceled before. Can I change the flight dates or the trip destinations without any penalties? I understand I have to pay if there is a difference in price for the flights, just want to make sure about the penalty. Also how close to the flight date can I cancel and how long would the credit be good for. I know this sounds like a lot of work but right now I am looking at $1600 just for air, and with gas prices going up I am afraid we won't make it to WDW this summer if the tickets go up much more. Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thanks.

You don't have to book a flight to sign up for Southwest's Rapid Rewards. Just sign up! It's free. Additionally, it doesn't matter who PAYS for a ticket. If you daughter is flying, get her her own RR account. The person who is FLYING earns the points/credits, not the person who pays. My family of four all have our own RR account numbers.

Ok, I just applied for both my husband and I, and we were both approved, now I have to keep my fingers crossed that I will be able to use these to get flights for August! This is why I love the DISboards, if this works out it will save us about $1000. WooHoo!!!

But the thing is, I don't want to roll the points back to credits. As I understand it, the credits can only be used on flights that have "reward seats" (or something like that) still available. Since my flights are in July, and my guess is I wouldn't receive the credits until late March/April, my chances of there being seats still available are slim. Am I interpreting this correctly?

I think I'll probably just wait until March 1st to apply. If this offer is no longer good, then I hope they'll come out with a similar one.

But I'd still like to know for sure, if the cost of my flights in points is higher than my points balance, can I pay the difference?

IIRC, _if_ you are awarded points (instead of rewards) you can _buy_ additional points from Southwest. There is a minimum number you have to purchase and you have to buy them in multiples of a certain number. All the details are on Southwest's site. Depending on how many you need, you may be better off just making a purchase to "earn" the points through the Visa card rather than paying cash just for points.

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: Glad you got all the "paperwork" done! Now you just have to wait for those rewards. I check my account twice a day or more.

I have one free flight from an earlier SW Visa offer and my husband should be getting 2 free flights from this offer. Does anyone know if these can be used as 6 one way flights, instead of 3 roundtrip??
