Southwest Airlines 2 free flights credit card offer-What's the catch?

The waiting is making me crazy. I applied for 16 credits and the gift cards tiered to what you spend. No annual fee. I have a feeling they are deciding if they want to still use this promo. Why the holdup when everyone is getting instant approvals? I really just want the card already so I can accrue the points and have them in my hands so I can buy tickets!

Originally I had gotten it in the mail but was confused with the credits so I threw it out. But with all the talk here, I realized it was a good deal and searched for it.

Looks like a good deal, as we pay all our bill through the card, but the waiting for it to be valid is making me nuts. We had also gotten another offer in the mail that was giving us 32 flight credits with the annual fee. We were always so spoiled with $39 fares the annual fee seemed like a rip off.

Any updates? I am still torn as to apply and what will happen for our October trip. We would take the card with the $59 fee since I do not want to use a 2nd card, but I am afraid to do that and not have the credits/rewards work and we still end up paying full price for our tickets.

I applied on 02/11/11 and received my card today. I am going to call to activate and use it right away.

Got my card yesterday and my dh got his today. I called to activate and she did confirm the 2 flights Then I inquired about the annual fee and she told me the first year was waived.......so we shall see. Will make a purchase and wait to see what happens.

I called today to activate my card and it was confimed that I will be getting 2 free flights after my first purchase and that it will take 6-8 weeks to have the flights credited. I was also told that I do have an annual fee (which was stated in the info when I applied). There was no mention of waiving the fee but who know maybe I will get lucky.

That's cool, I'm trying to decide if I need to do this but I have so many CC's right now. LOL

Is there a fee to cancel the card after your 1st use?

Well, that would be different. The fee was only supposed to be waived, if you got the welcome back deal. That would be sweet. I've not gotten it waived.

Okay...so I finally got approved!!! I was told by an agent I would get any offer that I applied through so hope all goes well and I get my card soon. Have my home owners insurance bill to pay for the year! Gotta get some points going on that card!

My two RT awards were posted Wednesday 2/18/11. If I remember correctly, I applied 1/23/11, got my card 1/29/11, used it 1/30/11.

anything? I don't see any notes about that-
and once you do make a purchase,and get the credits in your acct- how do you use them?
I read *most* of the thread before asking.....
and...if I'm reading the ad right,it's buy something,get credits for 2 R/T flights into acct-? how many will they let you use?

When I called to activate my card the customer service rep told me to "fill the car up with gas, go to dinner or get groceries". So basically any purchase will count. She said rewards will be posted within 6-8 weeks.

I had requested a bill close date on the 28th of each month, so I was surprised to receive a bill with my first couple purchases. I paid it and within a few days, the awards were posted. (Had I been thinking a little more strategically, I would have requested the 7th or 10th of the month - because I wanted 2 of the current, standard awards so I could convert to Freedom. But apparently the stars were aligned in my favor!)
