Southern California CityPass - confused about rules for use

I am planning to purchase some CityPasses for an upcoming trip, but am confused as to how to validate the booklet. I was reading the pamphlet in the 2010 Disney Vacation Planning DVD, and it says that "Disneyland Resort must be the first step on the Guest's itinerary". I have also run across this on some other web sites; but, on the official CityPass site, I don't see any sort of rule about which park you have to go to first.

Can anyone who has used one of these passes please let me know if I could use the booklet at the San Diego Zoo first, then go up to Universal Studios, then do Disneyland, and then back to SD to do SeaWorld? It really is a good deal, but our itinerary does not have Disneyland as our first destination.

I haven't used CityPass since 2006, but both times I've used it was in San Diego first, the zoo and Seaworld.

I imagine you can use it at any of the other locations first because you can purchase the CityPass at any of those locations. I'm sure they wouldn't sell it to you at the zoo if you had to use it at Disneyland first.

You are buying it at Costco right? It's a better deal there....

It depends where you make the purchase. If you purchase it through the Disney website you must use it there first.

When we went in July, Universal had a deal if you bought it through them they gave you an extra day. Look at the San Diego Zoo site if that is your first planned stop.

^ This would make sense.

My own personal experience with the CityPass was way back in 2007 and I purchased mine through Costco and there was nothing that dictated what order I had to do anything in.

If you have an actual Southern California CityPASS booklet or card in hand, regardless of where you've purchased it (citypass.com/southern-california, Costco or an attraction), you can visit any attraction first. E-tickets or printed vouchers from companies like Expedia or Travelocity must be redeemed at Disney. E-tickets and printed vouchers from any of the attractions' websites should also be redeemed at that attraction. Otherwise, there is no rule as to which attraction you must visit first. Hope this help to clarify it for you!

Thanks everyone for the clarification. Glad to hear that having the booklet/card in hand means that there are no restrictions on usage.

Unfortunately, the Canadian Costco site is charging CAD$279.99 for the adult pass which is much more than the US site. I will probably go through CAA (AAA) as the pass is going for US$255.

Are you flying in or driving? If flying are you renting a car here? It might be worth getting them at a Costco in the states. You would save $15 per person and the exchange rate lately has been close to equal.

If you're coming from BC there's a Costco just south of downtown Seattle right off I-5.
