South Hampton Port Question

Hey Disney Family! This is my families and my first time sailing out of Southampton and we will be staying at the Voco hotel near the port and I was wondering if you are able to walk to the port from the hotel with your luggage or is it better to take an Uber or Taxi? Any advice you can share for that port would be greatly appreciated

Firstly its Southampton, all one word

And yes Voco Hotel is walkable to Horizon Cruise Terminal which Disney use. It used to be a Holiday Inn and was refubed and had a name change. Holiday Inn use to market as being the closest hotel to the cruise terminal. Depending on which side of the hotel your room faces you will be able to see the ship arriving into port at aprrox 6am on embarkation day.

We just did the TA in November and I would say it’s walkable to a point… By that I mean it depends on the weather. It depends on if they’re doing any construction or work in the port area and it depends on how much luggage you have. It was definitely a walkable distance by our standards. That being said, we ended up doing a shuttle from VOCO to the port because we weren’t sure of the distance before we left the states. There were some barricades up in the port, so it was not as direct as the walk as it could have been, but like I said, definitely walkable if you want! Cheers!

I was wondering about any type of construction and the conditions of the sidewalks or any potential obstacles we might encounter if we tried to walk to the port or if its better to pre book a car service of some sort but its hard to know when its a place and port you have never been before so having others experiences is very helpful. If you don't mind sharing approximately how much did the shuttle cost and was the shuttle offered by the hotel?

LOTS of easy to find Taxi's around the area (especially on cruise ship days). Hotel will likely even have a taxi phone. I would skip the stress and just plan on taking a Taxi, especially if you have a few bags and / or any kiddos. LOVED this port last year (before Norway cruise). Such a fun little area with shopping, food, drinks, and history sprinkled around. Have fun!

Just for context for all those who dont know the area and have never been to Southampton cruise port. This is the walk from from Voco Hotel to Horizon Cruise Terminal. Such a waste of money to get a taxi.

In 2025 on embarkation day I walked from Horizon cruise terminal to City Cruise terminal to take photos of Dumbo on the back of The Dream. Then I walked back again to Horizon cruise Terminal and did bag drop and joined my PAT queue line.

Southampton Port Authorities expect people to walk from the local hotels and between the cruise terminals and have built footpaths with signs for cruise passengers.

Also on embarkation day you might not even get a taxi to accept the fare from Voco to Horizon terminal as its so short and they wont make any money.

On a good weather day (and when I’ve sailed from Southampton I’ve only had good weather) I agree with you, it’s very walkable. On a day when it’s chucking it down with rain, the taxi would be well worth it IMO.

Last year I walked from the Leonardo Royal which is just over the road and it was fine. But again, it was a nice day!

I understand!! I asked the same questions last fall!!
I don’t remember the exact cost, but it was super reasonable. VOCO arranged the ride for us. I asked them immediately upon check-in to sign us up for the car service over to the ship. Super friendly and nice hotel, and they will go above and beyond for you! ENJOY! Cheers!

We will also be cruising out of Southampton on the Dream in late July. We will be staying at Premier Inn West Quay. Is that walkable to the Horizon terminal with a family of 4 (two late teen girls) with 4 medium sized suitcases assuning nice weather?

Yes Premier Inn WestQuay is walkable to Horizon Cruise Terminal.

There are two routes
Route one, cross the street at the traffic lights and walk on the footpath down to dock gate 10

Route two, cross the street at the traffic lights, walk across to VOCO Hotel and then follow the footpath to Horizon Cruise Terminal
