Well, I e-mailed MS because it would be important to me to know if there will be dedicated 2 bedrooms. It's not something I knew about before buying, BWV doesn't have them, VWL does. These are the 2 on site resorts that we own at. If we're going to be bringing extended family, they like the 2Q in the second bedroom for their family. So, I wrote an e-mail to MS and this is the reply:

Dear Barbara,

At this time we have no specific information on the resort.

Best Regards,

Jerry

That just doesn't make any sense to me, that they are selling and don't know. We're passing for now...I'm sorry to say.

Bobbi

PS. And this was today, February 1st. I had sent the e-mail a day ago. I would have been happy to wait for an answer...wasn't trying to scoup anyone. Oh well.

I don't think MS will have any info on AKV until they start taking reservations there. Until then, I would think your guide would be the person you need to ask that question of. JMO

From what I understand, all the 2 bedrooms will be lock offs.

Oh...too bad for me! I hadn't wanted to bother our guide, since we weren't going to buy 150, and the 100 could have been bought later this month. But if that's the case, we'll pass. I really didn't want to buy any more of the oldest DVC's.

Thank you.

Bobbi, I have to agree, that was a pretty sorry response. If they didnt know, they should have asked someone that did or forwarded your question to someone that knew. The resort is selling so the super secret cloak should be removed.
That's like when you are at Wal-Mart and they say, that's not my department:confused3

I, too, am holding off Bobbi...basically because we have yet to see the model room. I have confidence in DVC...and I think all of thexisting resorts are wonderful in their own way....however, I really do need to at least see some photos of the rooms before I buy.

I agree, though, that MS won't know anything, though the guides definitely know the answer to how many 2 BRs and how many are lock-offs, etc.

Also, I think the idea of AKV is wonderful, and I'm sure it will be beautiful and something we, DH and I, will want to stay at.

All the 2 BR in the current lodge building will be lockoff's but most of the 2 BR in the new building will be dedicated. No news on the second BR set up or whether the dedicated 2 BR will have the extra sleeper chair.

Nice, we prefer the dedicated two bedroom units over the lock-offs!

BCV has dedicated 2BRs that don't have 2 queens in the second room. I know because that's what we got last year when we stayed there. Next time I need to remember to ask for dedicated with 2 queens.

Yes, and I was hoping this resort had the sort with the 2Qs. I've been pleased with VWL because they have quite a few dedicated 2 BDRs, and they all seem to have the 2 Qs. I guess we won't know for awhile.

Bobbi:)

I need more detail about the rooms too Bobbi.

As far as the 2 queen thing goes.... All of the dedicated 2 bedrooms have 2 queens in the second bedroom except BCV (which only 1/3 of them do). From what I understand BCV was a mistake. They were to have 2 queens in all of them but there was a problem with the size of the room (I think it had something to do with the balcony/patio door).

I know you need to hear that info offically but I would guess from what Dean had posted that there would be 2 queen villas in the new building and not in the lodge.

Heres hoping we get the details soon.

My guide quoted the number of dedicated in vs lockoff's in the new building. I didn't pay strict attention but my impression was maybe 60-65% of the 2 BR in the new building dedicated. She didn't state any specifics as to set up but I think it's reasonable to assume 2 queens. I don't think they'll make the same building mistakes they did with BCV where they planned it as 2 queens then messed it up on the framing, wiring, etc and couldn't fix it in many of the rooms.

Of the 458 rooms at AKV, 22 are Grand Villas (2201 sf), 140 are dedicated 2 BRs (1075 sf), 250 are lockoff 2BR (945 sf) and 46 are dedicated studios (316 sf). If you assume all the GV and dedicated 2BR are in the new building (a total of 162 rooms), then there will be 162 lockoff 2 BRs in the new building. That leaves 46 dedicated studios in the current lodge and 98 2BR lockoffs, for a total of 134 rooms.

If this is correct, then although more than half of the 2 BR in the new building will be lockoff, as a practial matter, since many of these will be booked as 1BR and studios, I would suspect most of the 2 BR booked in the new building will be dedicated. It will remain to be seen, however, what the bed set up wil be in the dedicated 2 BR and whether you wil be able to guarantee a 2BR lockoff.

The problem with these number is that there doesn't seem to be a differential between the size of units in the current building. All studios will be 316 sf, all 1 BRs will be 629 sf and all 2 BRs will 945 sf.

It makes me wonder if the reported extra bathroom is in lieu of a full kitchen in the 1 and 2 BRs, allowing extra space to put in a pullout chair. This might be a good trade-off for some if it comes with conceirge service but it doesn't appear that all the rooms in the current building will be club rooms.

Thanks for all of the information. My guide did mention the 140 dedicated 2 bedrooms in the new building. She did remind me that at the BCV, there were supposed to be more dedicated with the 2 Q's. I asked her when they decided that there wasn't room for the 2Q's and she said that she thought it was late in the game...when furniture was being brought in. There were some different configurations for some rooms, and that was the problem. I asked her if this had happened in any of the 2 bedrooms at SSR and she said no. So, I'm assuming, hoping, that they've learned.

We're satisfied with the answers, and will put an order if for some points.
