As a poultry enthusiast (yes, I raise and show chickens
) I know how much of a pest those sparrows can be. Those of us who choose to get rid of them do so by trap and then either gas them or ring their necks. Most of the poultry show folks will use the same methods to cull their non-show quality chicks and young birds. I prefer to sell my culls to city folks who don't care so much about showing birds but just want egg layers that are pretty to look at. That being said, it is absolutely cruel to do away with a bird the way this man is doing it. And to do it in front of children is wayyyy over the line. It's abusive to the children as well as the birds. If this story is true, the authorities should definately be called. I'd say they'd find evidence of even more abuse......and not just towards the birds.
