I am looking at adding on to our current allotment of points. We purchased direct the first time and are planning on resale for the next contract, I'm not worried about the loss of perks or anything. We will only be using these at WDW. Now, as for my questions...

1) Does UY have any other implications other than banking and such? Would it be better, other than convenience, to have the same UY for both contracts? I'm not worried about canceling, we always plan at least a year out. Once we book a vacation, it's carved in stone :thumbsup2 . Heck, I'm already planning our December 2017 trip.

2) One of my main concerns is being able to "pool" the points from both contracts. Is this possible at all or do 2 separate contracts always require 2 separate reservations when booking a vacation with both sets of points?

3) I had a 3rd question but didn't type fast enough and I forgot it :confused3. As soon as I remember it, I'll ask that one too.

#1 and #2 are the same question, really. The main reason to match your use year is so you're able to pool points for a single reservation. If you have the same use year, all points work together seamlessly; at 11 months if they're the same home resort, or at 7 months if they differ.

the main thing is banking window and extra "insurance" if you need to cancel.

but if you buy a contract with the same UY month and title it the same, it would be considered an "add-on" to your current master contract. you could still will or sell them separately but they would work together seamlessly - so you easily would be able to pool pts from both contracts (at the 11 month window with the same home resort or at the 7 month window if you buy a different home resort).

if you buy a new UY month, it would be like you were 2 separate members (as you would have 2 separate membership numbers). if you are planning on using the contracts separately for different times of the year and you are a good planner, this can be a benefit. otherwise, it means you would have to book partial stays separately and have MS link the 2 stays. (alternatively, you could transfer pts from one contract to the other and then you could pool pts - same rules as above since there is no way to defeat the home resort preference - with the limitation that you cannot borrow transferred pts - so if you were ever to try to combine 3 years worth of pts from both contracts, it would be pretty complicated.)

Thank you for clearing that up! 2 additional/follow-up questions...

1) If they are the same UY, yet different resorts (say AKV and BLT), would you still have the ability to pool them (keeping in mind different resorts, 11 mo./7 mo., etc.) as an "add-on" to the master contract or would that not matter because they are different resorts?

2) If both contracts are same resort / UY and titled the same, would I be able to book a reservation online using the points from both contracts and not have to book two separate reservations?

Thanks again!

If your current UY covers most of your vacations during the first 8 months then buy the same UY.

Saying that you will never cancel a vacation is unrealistic IMO. We didn't know that we would have a death in our family or that DW's employer would force us to move to another city at vacation time.

If that all applies then at 7 months you could make the reservation online as a single reservation. The system has you rank the order of the contracts to use the points from. At 11 months there would be no pooling of points from different resorts of course.

Now if you bought two different UYs but wanted to stay at a completely different one than you owned then you could still utilize online booking but would book the first part of the stay at 7 months and then wait the few days for the 7 month mark for the second part to book with your second UY. Then you could either call or email MS and ask them to link them for a continuing stay. Or if you decided to transfer points from one UY to the other then you could call in at 9 am at the 7 month mark and MS could make the single reservation at 7 months (up to 7 nights if booking rights at 7 months from check in).
