... but how do people know if your staying in a Disney hotel or if your not if you want to use the EMH's?

I went in 2007 but I was only 16 then so just trailed behind my parents during EMH but I remember ropes across the front on the Disney castle and all I remember is my mum showing one of the men stood there something and they let us through but there were other people stood there who couldn't get through but she can't remember what she showed them so I'm hoping someone can tell me

They give you something called an easypass when you check in at your hotel and you show that to get access to EMH

During our last trip we wasnt asked when we went into the roped off areas we just walked past the cm's

Yes
