hi all:wave:
i'm sorry to ask another question on the dollar rate::yes:: but today i went into lunn poly and enquired how the dollar rate was and the lady asked how much i was changing up(i will have saved £1000 by mid july)and when was we travelling(october)she then told me to just change £500 now and then £500 in july because it was at it's highest today at $176.something and that it will go down
my question to you all is what would you do? or is she just telling me this so i give them my custom?
it would be a great help to me if you could give me some advice:D

sorry for the long post::yes::

Hi Eve,

I don't see how the Lunn Poly lady can definitely know it will go down, there was a lot of speculation a while back that we would possibly see $2 to the £ but that never happened either. Who knows?

Personally, I would hedge my bets and change half now and half later. I think you may be able to get a better rate than what she has quoted though; try www.travelex.co.uk which is currently showing as $1.788 to the £. I've always found the Post Office and M&S to have better rates than elsewhere too (but haven't checked this out tonight)

First, dont use Lunn Poly!! Marks and Spencers tend to be the best for high street currency. They were $1.78 today. The post office also has excellent rates. The best is usually Travelex, but there arent too many of those around.

We had a tip off from a friend who works at an American bank that the rate would peak in June. I think we may see a few more cents up before the end of the month. Keep an eye on the "Spot Rate" not the tourist rate (which is lower) on a site like Bloomberg. The spot rate will generally fall 24 hours before the tourist rate.

At the end of the day though, its a gamble. I think $1.78 is an excellent rate (considering it was $1.55 this time last year) so I dont think it would be foolish to buy now.

hi karen and allie:wave:
thank you for your help::yes:: i didn't think about going to marks and spancer i'll check them out tommorow,i think i will go with what you say and change half now and half later and hopefully we might hit $2 to the £

Hi there, we've done the same thing - changed some up now as the rate was good then we'll see what the rate does. We got 1.778 at Lloyds for traveller's cheques. M&S did have a great rate but it worked out the same as Lloyds so we went with Lloyds as we could pick them up from our branch. Anyway, I think the Lunn Poly woman was just after your business - nobody knows what the dollar is going to do just yet, it could still go up more.
