Sorry another MJ question. Anyone else feel like the family should have helped?

I sat and watched the MJ funeral and between feeling sad and choked up I felt anger. Anyone else feel like the family and or friends should have done something? I have heard that they tried but I just think they didn't try hard enough. If MJ had enough money to pay Drs to get meds then I am sure that the family had enough money to pay off a Dr to have him sent to a rehab. I mean there are children involved here. If they knew he was abusing drugs then why didn't someone "hit him where it hurts" so to speak. Why didn't someone threaten to take away his kids or threaten to call Child Protective Services or even worse the Tabloids! Why didn't someone sit down and explain that they loved him and because they loved him they needed him to get help. If that didnt work scream, yell, rant and rave. There are enough of them to ALL try. If it is such a close family then someone should have been able to help that poor man out. He had numerous surgeries, allegedly bleached his skin, weighed 112 pounds and ate once a day. Ok so you don't have a drug problem you have anorexia and body dysmorphic disorder YOU STILL NEED HELP! Maybe I live in a dream world, maybe you can't help someone who doesn't want help. I know that addicts are in denial but I just really think someone in that "close loving" family should have done more.

I feel that MJ put himself in A LOT of situations that he shouldn't have. It's sad that no one was strong enough to tell him no, or make him see that.

But as for the drug stuff--no one can make anyone see their errors-they have to hit rock bottom, and figure it out for themselves.

Exactly. Even when a medical condition is involved it's almost impossible to get help against somebody's will. You gotta remember the only reason that Britney Spears got help was that she had a breakdown severe enough to land her in the psych ward for weeks where she could be assessed without her permission...that is extremely rare and as wacky as some of the stuff MJ did he never went that far. There is an assumption that people are sane and you can't prove otherwise unless they agree to an assesment.

ITA! I think you will read in time that many relatives tried to help but MJ would not listen. SAD. He needed an Intervention and he needed to get himself cleaned out. I think that his death was a complete accident. There is no way I believe MJ wanted to die ESP after seeing those beautiful children yesterday. I think MJ was hooked and for a long time. After seeing reports from Nurse Lee, she said he kept saying he would pay anything to have someone inject him with the diprivan (if what she is even saying is true?). There has been far too many reports of allot of drug taking by MJ...why, I have no clue. There was a report he took medication to bleach his skin. He was very conflicted. A musical genius for sure, but still very troubled. SAD.

I know sometimes when people get dumped into rehab and get off the drugs they finally see the light (like people who quit smoking and then wonder why they ever smoked in the first place) -- in his case, with prescription pain meds, those things can make you very stupid (been there)

But if its the deprivan which ultimately killed him, and that's seeming more and more to be the case, then somebody could have done something -- there's no excuse for his death if that was the cause.

ITA with this....if MJ was FINE 48 hours before; as we have seen the video clip over and over again.... then WHOEVER injected him needs to come forward and should/will be prosecuted. Nurse Lee said MJ would NEVER inject himself....in reading many transcripts with her she was asked if MJ would have done this to himself and she was INSISTANT that he could NOT stand any pain at all....he would have never taken a needle and injected himself.

Someone is accountable for MJ's death. I wonder if there are surveillance cameras at that mansion he was renting that would note those that came and went that day in the hours before he died?

I am confused about all this talk of him needing the diprivan for sleep...why was he pronounced dead at 2:30pm and not in the early hours of the morn?

I'm just not sure he was the addict the tabloid press has made him out to be.

If he was, maybe his family was not in the position to get him into rehab - he paid many of their bills, as I understand. If they rocked the boat, then the money would stop. I am not so positive he was even in close contact to his siblings.

My husband's childhood friend died at age 43 from an addiction to painkillers and alcohol. He had a huge, loving family and no one could help him. The grip of those medications was way too strong. His body just failed him and h died. He didn't OD or anything, his body just gave out one day from all the abuse.

It is not necessarily true that there was one moment that someone injected MJ and he died. It could have been a combination of the long-term use of painkillers, his exertion of the past 2 weeks, and the fact that he seemed to be malnourished.

It doesn't sound good for the doctor who was present when MJ died.. Through his attorney, he has stated that he did not provide MJ with oxycontin or demerol - but has no comment regarding the dipravan.. Could it be that he's hoping the toxicology reports will show that he died of some other kind of overdose and therefore he's "off the hook"??

As for MJ's family and friends trying to help him - they did - many, many times.. One of the problems was that MJ had a legitimate need (medical issues) for many of the drugs he took - but over time, under certain circumstances, he abused those drugs..

I do not have anyone with drugs but my DSis is morbidly obese and my entire family has tried everything we can to help DSis with this issue. EVERYTHING you can imagine. She scares me soooo much. It will be the most devastating news if something happens to her....but even lately, if anyone including my Mom (who loves her sooo much) says anything to DSis about her weight....BOOM....DSis GETS UP and STORMS out of Mom's house....then DSis will not want anything to do with (82yo) Mom for about 2 weeks, then DSis calms down and shows back up at Mom's house then Mom is PETRIFIED to mention anything weight related (for a while) then the who scenario plays again......

Actually, the other day DSis FELL HARD going up steps into the beauty parlor and the owners had to call 911 to assist DSis back on her feet.


Soooo, I am so guessing that the Jackson's LOVED MJ so much BUT MJ (I am guessing now) became angry/mad/upset when the family/brothers would mention his drug use.

I agree with the others who say you cannot help an addict unless THEY want to be helped.
We did an intervention with my brother. He is back to drinking again. No amount of money will *make* him stop.

I hope that the family did everything they could because knowing they didn't try to help their brother would be a terrible thing to have to live with. I do blame the dr.s they could have put a stop to giving him the meds; but chose not to for whatever reason.

CNN was just saying that he had paper white skin, track marks on both arms and his veins had collapsed. It just keeps getting sadder and sadder.

He wasn't actually pronounced dead until he was in the hospital.

Speaking as the wife of a musician -- they said he was at rehearsal until 12:30 the night before. If that was DH, he wouldn't have gone to be until at least 2 hours later (it's an adrenaline thing) just like when doing shows. But normally, DH would be adjusting his sleeping schedule for the time zone difference too.

If he was using the deprivan to sleep that night, I'm wondering if he never woke up from it ie. the Dr. wasn't monitoring him through the night

that is veeerrrry interesting, because Nurse Lee was adamant that he had no needle marks on his arms at the time she was there. If I were the Dr., I'd be leaving town about now...
