Sorcerer Pass Renewal and applying value of park ticket

In October 2023 I purchased a discounted multi day ticket (via a Target/Viator deal) each for me, my husband and daughter and successfully applied the value of those tickets to our Sorcerer Pass Renewals. Last week I called to renew my pass and wanted to use the value of another multi day park ticket in my MDE the same way. I was told the policy is that the value of a ticket can only be applied to the new purchase of an annual pass, not a renewal. Is this a rule change that I missed? The cast member had to put me on hold for a long time to "research" and I'm not sure if she spoke with someone else or just read a policy. I have another use for the multi-day ticket if I can't use it for the renewal, but I'd just like to know for future planning. I know it's not an uncommon strategy to apply the value of a discounted park ticket to an AP renewal - has anyone been able to do this recently?

Thanks!

The last time I did it, I was able to use a pass I had to go toward renewal…this was March 2024…though I did mine in person.

I'll call again later today and update. I could have just had an uninformed cast member.

After more than an hour on the phone, we got it done, but they did not bridge to the current value of the ticket as they've done in the past. It was somewhere in between what I paid and the current value, but I didn't have the time/energy to make a fuss about it.

The issue is that you need to call DVC member services to renew, but those cast members don't have the authorization to apply the value of tickets to a renewal. DVC transfers you to regular ticketing, where they also don't have the ability to do it. Regular ticketing transfers you to the ticket specialists, who can do it.

I suppose if I would have put up more of a fight about the value, they may have bridged to the current price of the ticket I was converting, but this worked out fine for me in this instance. It wasn't quite as good a deal as it could have been, but close enough and I valued my time over the money difference. It's not every day I make that choice, but I did today, lol!

They have not bridged to current value in quite a while.

It’s the price you paid, if bought via Disney, or the value of the ticket when it was minted if bought elsewhere.

Could be why you got somewhere in between what you paid and todays value.

That makes total sense. I bought it on TripAdvisor. At any rate, I'm happy with how it worked out. The ticket was for a guest to join us on an upcoming trip, but they may now not be able to come and I feel better having converted that to an annual pass that I needed to renew anyway rather than have a ticket sitting in my account that may go unused. If they are able to join us I can just buy them a new ticket.

I'm new to the AP and DVC so this may come off as pedestrian but is there some hidden value in buying a discounted daily ticket only to have that applied towards the purchase of an AP? Is it a case of paying $50 for a ticket with a face value of $80 and then applying it towards the AP and receiving the full $80? Surely Disney can recognize a discounted ticket, similar to how airlines can.

You can benefit from doing it but the bridging that is done is based on Disney price when the ticket was minted and not current price.

So, the savings might not be as large as you think but you will get something..unless they are special comp type tickets.

I see. Sounds like a case of juice not worth the squeeze. I hadn't heard of this savings strategy until coming across this thread but it seems like the savings could be minimal and possibly zero if Disney isn't allowing it any longer. A safer path to savings is in the BJs Black Friday GC at 5% off purchased with my CC that gives 2% back for all purchases, even GCs.

That works and what I typically do now!

I've bought tickets and applied them when I had a 5% back on theme park tickets on my CC, but I wasn't within my renewal period of my AP. It was definitely worth it for me at that time to do so.
