So we're supposed to be leaving for FL tomorrow to visit my parents for Christmas and New Year's and then heading to Disney Jan 3. Which should be awesome.

Right now when I need to be packing and finishing the laundry (two sets of stairs down) and getting the house clean for the house/dog sitters I'm sitting with ice on my knee and can barely walk. I also have pain in both shoulders and both wrists. What is up with THAT?

My knee has had a habit of clicking and popping over the past couple of years but it has NEVER done this to me. And the shoulders and wrists are just random. My dad has RA but I can't imagine it would just start like this - all these joints involved at once. :confused3

Stupid joints. :headache:

Anyone with any great OTC remedies please chime in. I have no time for a trip to the clinic today. I'm currently popping Tylenol for Arthritis but it's only marginally better than last night. Advil didn't touch it.

DH has had good luck using Alleve to help with muscle pain. Hope you feel better quickly.

My Mother had arthritis so I assumed when I got all achey in my knees/hips/shoulders that it was arthritis rearing it's ugly head. I made an appointment with a rheumatologist and was flummoxed when tests came back negative!! I had a virus settle in my joints! One big, 'ol shot in the butt (frankly, I don't remember WHAT was in the shot--cortisone maybe) later and I was on my merry way--pain free. It was truly a miracle. Normally, I am not one to run to the doctor--but, in this case, it was well worth it.:thumbsup2

Good luck to you, I hope you feel better. :wizard:

Try some joint pain rub like asper creme, or bengay, It really works. I know you can get asper creme w/o the harsh medically smell, I use it a lot:rolleyes1:guilty:. I hope you get to feeling better too!

PS, also if you have time maybe you can draw a bath with Epsom salt and soak your body it helps too!:goodvibes

I hope you feel better soon, it sounds like you have a lot of nice things in front of you

If there is anyone else in that house with you make them do the up & down, step one should probably be letting yourself heal & preventing more injury. I put my laundry room in the basement and I'll drag stuff down there but going up is my husband's job because I'm just not strong enough. I have about 6 of those tall hamper like bins and as I clean the clothes and towels I rotate them into the clean bins, drag them in front of the stairs so he can get to them easily. Once they are upstairs I make piles on my bed right before we all go to sleep and each family member is responsible for putting their thins away right there and then.

I like Aleve for muscle and joint aches and pains, it just seems to work better on that sort of thing.

I always thought Aleve worked wonders for me. I have RA and used it before I was diagnosed and had no idea why my knees and feet hurt so much.

I thought RA effected joints on both sides of your body, so if only one knee hurts maybe it is OA, which I believe is much easier to treat. The icing should help, but I have heard a hot bath with epsom salts helps some people.

Good luck, and let us know if you get any relief. Try to take it easy on your trip!

Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone! Sounds like Aleve (I'm not sure that is available in Canada - never noticed it - but we should be crossing the border Tuesday), followed by topical rubs will be what I pick up later today.

LuvOrlando - that's funny! I have always put things at the foot of the stairs to go up and top to go down but DH seems to just not notice. He says he never knows where it's supposed to go. Umm, well the pink stuff goes in DD's room, rock logo stuff to DS and black to ours...size should be a pretty good indication too. He is helping me out today though. I just have to tell him what goes where. I've intended to get a system like yours going - I keep planning one one clean bin per room and the kids can take their own baskets up, but haven't organized it yet.

I've managed to get the kids bag packed, and everything laid out for mine and for the hotel bag that will come in and out each night. DH is on his own. I washed and folded it - he can pack it.

Right now I seem to have been able to get ahead of the knee pain by layering advil and Tylenol. I'll stay on that until I can get out later this afternoon. the shoulders and wrist have eased a bit too but I can work around them better than the knee.

I talked to my dad this AM and he said his RA kind of hit all at once starting in the wrist, then knee within days. He said as you did kathie that maybe it was a virus (if I'm lucky).

I'm feeling more positive now that I've finished a few things than I did this morning. Thanks again for the input.

Sometimes heat works better than ice. I also like those Therma-Heat patches that you can attach to your skin and they stay warm for about 8 hours. They make them for different body parts, even for the knees.

Weather can make joints act up. Or maybe you've just worked your joints harder than usual lately. Hope you feel better soon!

I have regular arthritis and heat works better for me as cold weather makes mine flare up. I ice the muscles that get angry over supporting the aching, weak joints and then I get out the warm stuff for the joints. It's a battle but aleve/naproxin should help after you have taken it for a few doses. Don't stop taking it or you'll have to make up time.

We do have Aleve now, it is behind the counter, so you must ask!

It certainly helped me a lot. Now, not so much, for for issues you mention, it was a god send. Just make sure you follow the directions well.

Happy Holidays and I hope you can treat your pain to enjoy every day to the fullest~~ :grouphug:

Hi rodeo, Ottawa'er here, they for sure carry Aleve some places like a PP keep it over the counter but places like the Real canadian superstores and shopper's drugmart do keep it out by the tylenol and such... my grandmother uses it occasionally but she finds that she has to use tigerbalm for things to work on her arthritis achey bones.
My dad was a marthon and iron man runner and his sports therapists always suggested tiger balm for aching bones and muscles. They make one specifically for arthritis and it works really well...the only downside is it smells like you're lathered in vicks vapor rub but it does work! :)

Good luck this sounds paintfull
