Soooo DebUK how was.....

It was superb, Sam. Everything worked which is quite amazing - I usually mess something up when I'm doing it for the first time. I even made croquettes which I was fully expecting to go horribly wrong! The only downer was the weather - we'd been hoping to eat al fresco (don't know the Spanish translation!).

I'll definitely be doing it again - it's a really relaxed way of eating with friends and we're all so sick of barbecues.

Well done Debbie :) It's a great sense of achievement when a "first" works out so well!
( I had a "first" last week when, for a dinner party, I thought I'd make a Hazelnut Meringue Torte ......... it was touch and go whether I'd throw Mary Berry in the bin, particularly when the recipe needed loads of "flaked hazelnuts with skins on" and I ended up having to buy whole nuts and having to flake them myself - I bruised my thumb, LOL!!! BUT, it was such a resounding success that Mary Berry has pride of place on the shelf again :) !!)

Oh Shirley that sounds scrummy and all those "special" lengths you went to to make it so.....mmmmmmmm

Deb - glad it went well, I love croquettes, shame about the weather.

What are croquettes? Sounds like you had a great evening Deb :)

Kath,

Croquettes (croquetas) are a Spanish tapas dish. The basic recipe is a very thick white (bechamel) sauce flavoured with virtually anything you fancy (cheese, chicken, ham, tuna, etc), then floured, egged, breadcrumbed and deep-fried. They do a chicken and ham version at Spoodles. They can also be made with mashed potato, but the white sauce version is far superior, IMHO. Real comfort food - my brother reckons they taste like 'baby' food and he loves them!

Here are a few sites I've found with recipes:
