I have narrowed it down to these cameras but cannot find a Panasonic in my area to check out. Anyone have any insight or recommendations between these two?

I have the sony HXI and is very very good camera. I love the pictures I can take with it and have the nice featur of panoramic photo and is great to start playing with manual controls. I also have a DSLR.

So how does it do with indoor pictures? My camera now you have to use the flash indoors and it leaves everything black in background and the faces are usually overexposed. Also, have you tried it in settings like a basketball game or a play or something like that? I need it for my sons sports and events too. Is the video really good on it? I played around with it in Best Buy yesterday but it is so hard to tell in the store how it will work in real life. I dont know how much I would use it but the panorama feature was pretty cool. I think I would be more interested in the anti blur and twilight features. Do they work well? I want good clear crisp pictures with natural light. I would mainly be using it in auto mode. Thanks for any help.

Almost all P&S's will need to use a flash to avoid grainy pictures indoors. Most homes are fairly dim in lighting especially if they have very few windows. To get a solid picture with my DSLR indoors in the evening I have to use ISO 800-1600 at F2.8. That may not mean much to you but that means I'm basically using all the capabilities of my SLR.

That said, there are better cameras for low light conditions than others. Super-zooms like the Sony are not known for their low light performance. Something like the Canon S90 is more of that type of camera.
