Sony E-Reader

This is probably a dumb question, but I'm not good with this stuff. For those of you that have the Sony E-Reader, when you download the books onto your computer, can you read them from the computer or just the e-reader?

I'd try mobileread.com for questions on e-readers.

I know that Sony is moving away from their proprietary format and toward ePub, which can be read on a computer screen. It will also open the Sony family of readers up to purchasing from more stores, and also downloads from many libraries. I'm not sure where exactly they are in that process however and whether or not their store has made the switch.
