song of the south dvd

I have a copy. You can legally buy a copy from the UK. It will be in PAL format. You are then allowed to make one copy.

I spent BIG bucks for this movie. My dds love it, but haven't watched it for more than a year now. Think I'll MAKE them watch it next weekend.

It is not legal for a video store or wedding videographer to copy them onto a DVD or U.S. VHS tape for you.

Actually, that's not true. Under the fair use portion of the DCMA, it IS legal to "backup" any medium to another medium, other than an original DVD or Audio CD. IE, copying a laserdisk or VHS (even PAL) onto a DVD is perfectly legal as a backup copy. It's no different than copying an audio cassette or a VHS.

The reason DVD and Audio CD's are specifically mentioned is because in most cases, backing them up would create a bit-perfect digital copy. Apparently the DMCA (and the RIAA and MPAA) don't have issues with making lossy-type backups.

Of course all of that being said, I'll freely admitt I blatently make bit-perfect backup copies of my DVD's and I don't feel immoral or sleezy for doing it. I paid for it and I'll do what I want with it.

My 2c.

He said Disney was in the process of adding to the movie. Adding a commentary explaining that the movie was of a sensitive matter, but that the story was a creation of it's time.
This is wonderful it would be a shame to do away with this movie entirely. I think it is such a wonderful teaching tool. My son was very upset with the way the mother treated/spoke to Uncle Reamus. I explained to him that this was the way things used to be a long time ago. (so a 6 yr old would understand). He said "that's awful! I would never treat anyone that way! I'm glad things have changed." So although it deals with sensitive issues, it also opens the oppurtunity for discussion. I thought it was an excellent movie, as did my kids. It's amazing how it held their attention so intently. It truly is a Classic!

The mom comes to Uncle Remus' cabin to personally apologize in the film.
She had realized she was wrong to speak to him that way.
It was very well-handled in the script.

The "conflict of misunderstanding" like this is a mainstay of all drama.

I see this as what would happen to ANY characters (regardless of race) if a mother (justified or not) thought someone was being a "bad influence" on her child (or becoming more important than she, to the child).

I'm sure that Disney is well aware that by (some) people ASSUMING (and LOOKING for) ANY kind of "status" difference in the interaction between the characters'... it makes conditions ripe for OVER-REACTION and heightened sensitivities to "normal human emotions" expressed in the script.
This is surely why the film has not be released in the US for YEARS.

SotS is one of Disney's BEST, most emotional and heart-warming live-action films.
The casting, acting, and production values are exceptional.

(And it doesn't hurt to feature some of the "Laugh-Out-Loud" funniest animated segments to boot.)

Looks like a potential Fall, 2006 release, if the mentioned rumor here is correct.

I really hope this is true - long overdue, IMO. No idea why this has taken so long, yet Gone With the Wind is on TV all the time. I agree with above posts that this really can be used as a teaching tool, AND for enjoyment. A classic for sure!
