Song Air to Force Lower Air Fares on East Coast Routes???

ddgirl, you're not alone. We too leave on May 3rd out of Dulles and have not gotten our tickets yet either. Still waiting for a sale with 6 weeks to go. I do check the seat map everyday and am prepared to pay the $240 if the seats get seriously low. Maybe this week??? I think the closest I've every bought is 3 weeks.

ddgirl...they currently have flights out of BWI on the 22 and returning the 29 of May for $178.00...Might be worth the extra drive depending onthe number of tickets youneed to purchase.

...ah ain't'a never heeerd o' Song Air 'afore, buts ah travelled JetBlue, an honey, they's great!!!!

But on a more serious note: this new, innovative line sounds like just what the airline industry needs to give it a boost in the arm....hope it works!:D

Will Delta still keep Delta Express flights going, or will they convert them over to Song?

I think BWI is just too far. We've done that in the past and its really not worth the savings. We're going in May as well and are awaiting a drop in fares. Dulles in our #1 choice as well. You just can't beat a 20 minute drive to the airport. :D

I called Delta and was told that song airline tickets arent available until March 31, and only available online. Were you able to purchase tickets??

Thanks, Patty

I have heard conflicting stories when calling Delta. The first time I called they told me that you would only be able to book Song online....the second time I called they told me that you could call Delta to book them.

The last time I talked to them they also told me that they would eventually be weeding out Delta Express. It looks like Song will be taking over.

I can't wait until March 31. I have my trip booked for December, but I can't wait to book my airline! Hopefully they will have low rates out of BDL!

I called Delta and they didn't give out much info on Song Air, just that they will start booking on March 31st, but didn't specify on phone or on-line. I'm real torn wondering if I should wait these next six days to 1) See if they fly out of Washington/Dulles and 2) if they fares are cheaper than what Delta is offering right now.

I am watching a Delta Flight for $240.00 at the exact times that I wanted, but HATE to pay that much. Keep in mind that I check their website at least 5 times a day. Every time I check I have my credit card in hand in case they drop. It's starting to make me CRAZY.

ddgirl-LOL I am doing the same thing for our mid-May trip. I check out the airline websites all the time and am hoping to snag something less than the 207pp I am finding right now from Rochester to MCO 5/17-5/19.

For those who are more knowledgeable about the airlines--do you think Rochester, NY is considered Northeast? I am wondering if they are even going to be offering service out of my airport?

DDgirl, everytime I read your post, I swear I wrote it. Still waiting for a Dulles fare too for May. Also check about 5 times a day too. I have my fingers crossed for tonight. Sales always start after midnight on Tuesdays. As for Song, I read that service out of Dulles won't be until October, according to the Wash. Post. Lets hope something shows up tomorrow. On a different note, Delta has a new article on their homepage regarding, cutting unpopular flights right away until the conflict ends in Iraq. Fortunately for us, Wash. DC is a pretty popular flight segment.

They aren't cutting unpopular flights, they are cutting back on the number of flights.

"Domestically, Delta will not reduce the number of destinations it serves, but will decrease the number of flights it offers on routes where there are currently multiple flights scheduled. "

Doesn't bode well for people looking for deeply discounted fares in the near future.

Song Air is eventually going to replace Delta Express. Delta Express flies smaller 737-200's while Song Air will utilize larger and more fuel efficient 757-200's. You can book your tickets on-line at Delta. One way to tell if it is going to be Delta Express or Song would be to look at the equipment that is being utilized. Suffice it to say, if it is a 737-200 then it's Delta Express. If its a 757-200, then it will most likely be Song Air. Until Delta gets all of the planes repainted and reconfigured, there may be someoverlap where as you will be on a Delta 757 as opposed to a Song Air 757. After the 31st, all bookings will ( I presume) be on Song Air's website which is www.flysong.com

Hope this helps. I'm not an airline expert but I play one on TV!

Hey N2MM - regarding your reply above and the Delta sales that start on Tuesdays after midnight, are these online or do I have to call? When are you going in May? Let me know and I'll set the alarm clock and get up at midnight and check the sale.
THANKS

DDgirl, I don't know if it's official, but have noticed the pattern that sales always occur Tuesday/Wedneday. I have seen sales on Wednesday mornings on some airlines, then by the evening, other airlines have followed suit. I've been getting bummed every Wednesday when our area keeps being left out of the decent fares, though I'm glad to read on the boards that lots of others got great fares last week. I want to know where the spring/summer fares are. We leave May 3-17. ugh. My daughters leave April 27-May 1 and don't have their tickets either. I usually fly either Delta or United, so either of them are OK, as long as it's the times I want, though United is a little unstable right now (but what airline isn't). We live in WV, so have a 45 minute drive to Dulles. So if you get up a midnight and don't see a deal, at least wait until the end of the day before you panic. I hope we don't have to pay $240, this would be the highest I've ever paid--we have gone 16 times in the last 3 years, so have bought alot of tickets. Good Luck!

N2MM - Thanks for your response - you bet I'll be up at 12:00 midnight checking, and then will check again at 4:00 am when I take the puppy out. We live about 40 miles from Dulles, but we're in Virginia (Winchester) so we're probably pretty close to you. Thanks for all your help, I've enjoyed reading your threads because like you said they are so similiar to mine.

Up here in the Northeast.....waiting patiently for Song's fares and times out of Boston for my June flights...Come on March 31st!!!:Pinkbounc

Start checking in to Song's website at 4 PM on March 30 and keep checking back. There is a small chance a small number of $79 each way seats will be available on choice dates which show high fares on Delta Express today.

I noticed that when Delta Express changed over the 737's to 757's on the BOS-MCO route this past January, a few, although just a few, cheap seats opened up where none had been for the week before.

NEW YORK – March 27, 2003 – Song™, an innovative low-fare service, will hold open casting calls in cities across the country as they search for a special group of talented individuals to entertain guests in airport gate areas as they board Song flights. The first of the "Song In The City" casting calls will take place at New York City’s Studio 54 on Wednesday, April 2. Registration starts at 7 a.m. and auditions will be held between 8 a.m. and noon. Other cities on the "Song In The City" tour include Boston, Miami, Tampa and West Palm Beach. Visit www.FlySong.com for the official rules or call the information hotline at 212-981-5292.

From singing to dancing, to rapping and acting, performance artists will have the opportunity to take their best shot in front of celebrity judges in each market. One winner will be selected from each city. Each qualified local winner will win an engagement performing in front of Song guests during inaugural festivities, and will also compete against the winners from the other cities in a final contest to be held at the famous Algonquin Hotel in New York City. The one Grand Prize Winner among the local finalists will receive $25,000 in cash.

"Song is introducing fun, entertainment and choice to the air travel experience," said John Selvaggio, president of Song. "We are looking for artists, musicians, aspiring entertainers – anyone who feels they have a special talent – to audition to be one of an exclusive group who will entertain our guests."

In October, Song plans to introduce the world’s most sophisticated in-flight entertainment system. Song is partnering with Matsu****a Avionics Systems and EchoStar Communications Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) and its DISH Network™ satellite TV service to provide a complement of on-board amenities, which when fully implemented will include: personal video monitors at every seat; all-digital, satellite broadcast programming; digitally streamed MP3 programming; pay-per-view programming available on demand; multi-player interactive games that allow play between passengers; and interactive iXplor moving map program with zoom capabilities and points of interest information and connecting gate information broadcast directly to personal in-seat video monitors.

"Since it will be a few months before this technology takes flight, we thought it would be a treat for our customers to sample some live, local talent while they prepare to board," Selvaggio added. "Our goal is to make the Song experience enjoyable on every level, from making reservations to checking in and waiting at the gate area, and especially while on-board."

Song plans to introduce a fleet of 199-seat, all coach Boeing 757 aircraft at the average rate of one per week for 36 weeks beginning in April. Song’s planned 144 daily flights will initially serve cities in the Northeast and key Florida leisure destinations. These markets include: New York City, Boston, Washington, DC, Hartford, Atlanta, West Palm Beach, Fort Myers, Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and Orlando. Based in Atlanta, GA., Song is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE:DAL). All Song flights are operated by Delta Air Lines.

Hey Karin037 - Do you know if Song will have flights out of Washington-Dulles (IAD) to Orlando, FL (MCO)? I've heard that they start taking reservations on March 31st, but have also heard that it won't be until October for them to fly out of Wash.-Dulles. I'm looking for cheaper fares, actually checking about 10 times a day.
