Sometimes, you just can't win!!

As some of you might of read in an earlier post, I sent flowers to my sister and her husband, who are down in Disney and his sister lost her battle to cancer. I didn't do it, looking for a thank you or anything. I THOUGHT I was doing something nice. I had the WDW Florist send a bright and cheery bouqet. I didn't want the traditional fall flowers because I didn't want it to be depressing. My note simply said, "Our thoughts are with you. Hugs and Pixie Dust. Dennis, Colleen and the kids". Well, I thought it odd that my sister didn't call me, letting me know that they arrived. I thought it even odder that she didn't send me an email postcard from Epcot yesterday like she told me she would of. Well, last evening, my father got a call from my sister's daughter with THIS message, "Tell my father that we received the flowers and Harry is QUITE upset!". I try to do something nice and this is what I run into!!! I meant no ill wishes with the flowers and am sorry if they took them that way. I think what hurts the most is that my sister didn't even have the decency to call ME directly and TALK to me about this. I get the message through the family grapevine.

Why did I even bother?!!

Well that just sounds absurd. Maybe she's saying that he's upset over the loss, and not the flowers? That's probably a stretch.

Colleen, I hope this is just a misunderstanding and am clinging onto DocRafiki's stretch for the time being. Maybe it's just the combination of grief,distance and getting messages third-hand that's confusing the issue at the moment.

I hope you get the thanks and explanation you deserve on their return from Disney.

From what I understand, the FLOWERS upset him! Like I said, I sincerely thought my sister would of called me just to tell me the flowers were there. She had told me she was sending me a postcard from Epcot. She was there yesterday and nothing arrived. To of conveyed the message the way she did really upset me. In fact, I was so upset that I did something I haven't done in years. I cracked open my bottle of 13 yr old Kahlua (I've had this bottle since before my son was born!) and made a White Russian!!

Maybe they just wanted to "get away from it all" and not be reminded of what had happened, and to just enjoy their vacation and then when you sent flowers it "brought it all back?" Maybe you should have waited and had flowers waiting for them when they came back from vacation, instead of sending them to their hotel. I agree though, your sister should have called YOU and talked to YOU about it, rather than you having to hear things from other people about it. Hope it all works out in the end.

Goodness! Even if they upset him for some reason, you'd think he'd at least understand that your intentions were good and appreciate that much at least. In the meantime, I'll hold out for the misunderstanding theory too. I hope all works out well in the end Colleen.

I hope this didn't hapen to you, but with my luck, the orders got mixed up nad they recieved a funeral spray, or a horse shoe of roses, or a congratulations boquet, or an Over-the-hill joke arrangement........
