Something to keep mom occupied?

Okay - my mom is on bedrest for the next 12 weeks at least with a broken ankle/lower leg and she's starting to go stir crazy already. She has her laptop with the Internet and games, she has a gameboy with games, magazines, books, knitting, needlepoint, and the TV with the cable box but she's still getting bored. I'm at a loss for ideas for what to do to keep her occupied. And how to stop the pain / itching in her cast since I don't remember mine being this bad but that's another story. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can't help with the itchy cast problem but for the boredom I suggest bubblewrap. You know the stuff that you use to mail stuff with to keep it safe? Who doesn't like to sit there and pop pop pop those bubbles? If nothing else maybe she'll get a chuckle out of it! :goodvibes

Crayons and a coloring book? Some adults find that theraputic. Maybe you could get her TIVO, if there's a lot of TV she likes to watch. Sudoku puzzles are becoming really popular.

Does she have Christmas cards she can write out? Or catalog shopping for the holidays?

Do you have a huge box of pictures you need sorting through?
The next time DH gets sick I'm plopping my rubbermaid of pictures on the bed next to him. I'm gonna have him try & categorize them somehow...either by year, child, or something. Right now they are just a mess...hundreds of them.

Does she do scrapbooking, or would she like to start? That might be a good way for her to occupy some time and get photos organized at the same time :)

That would keep me busy! That game is great fun!

Just another thought of things that might keep her busy. Many non-for-profit organizations may be able to have some sort of work that they would love to have someone help them with - I am thinking envelope stuffing for mailings. Some schools/pre-schools might like help cutting things out for art projects. Just a couple of ideas to help someone else!

Can you drug her?

I'm kidding-I was on bed rest for 10 weeks when I was pregnant with both girls and I went totally bonkers.

All the suggestions were good, I ended up playing a lot of computer games, Warlords III was a favorite, although it's hopelessly outdated by now...
