I haven't heard anything. Do you have a link? I don't even see the reference on their website.

In general airlines are experimenting with allowing you to use your smartphone in order to display an electronic (scannable) BP. Save paper.

I have no idea if Southwest even considering.

Now I can't find it. Was something about additional security when you checking in at airport if you use a credit card or license to check in

I think it has more to do with checking in/printing boarding passes at the kiosks. I always use my Rapid Rewards number, so not affected.
