Would it be possible to have unity candles at the reception and not the ceremony ?

The reason to why i am asking is because my fiance & i would like to have candles with flowers round them with a pic of my nan & his dad (of whom are now dead) we would like to do it in memory of them & it would be very special to us & both of our family's.

It's your wedding, you can do whatever you want !! That being said, are you thinking more of a memorial for them, because you can do that separate from the unity candle.

I thought that there was only unity candles. i would like to have some kind of candle thing.
One candle that i will light 4 my nan & one candle 4 my fiance to light 4 his dad & maybe a candle 4 both of us to light.

My nan & his dad are to too people that we would have loved to be at our wedding so we would love to do it in memory of them as if they were there.

The other reason why we would to do it is cos we are planning to get married on my nan's birthday- 5th may in 2010

how much are the candle's & unity candle ?

thanks

Hi, I was not a Disney bride, but we did the unity candle during the ceremony and had flowers (a rose and greenery) for each of our Dads.

I never found a unity candle set that I liked...I wanted plain and simple so I just bought a plain pillar candle, tapers and holders and had my florist add a small flower and a coordinating ribbon around the main pillar. I really liked how it all turned out. I have pictures but they are not uploaded on this computer.

Wishing you all the best!

Hopefully someone will chime in here that has done this. I know I have seen several couples who have done memorial kind of things. One option is a memorial rose in an empty chair for them. One I saw on here did a floral arrangement on a pedestal with a photo of the person they were honoring. One bride had a locket attached to her bouquet with a photo of the person she was honoring. There are SO many things you can do. Just depends what you want. I don't know why you couldn't do a candle and floral ring on a pedestal in memorium. Virtually anything IS possible with Disney...just depends how much you want to spend ! Though I don't think any of these items would be particularly costly.

To me unity candles are used as a symbol that unites the love of you and your future husband...
I have done 2 things different from the traditional way... First being that we were having an out door wedding and candles do not stay lite very long... We decided to have a sand ceremony... What you do is buy a really pretty glass or crystal bowl... what ever shape or size that you want... I personally picked a very narrow bowl that stands about 9 inches tall almost like a full circle with an opening on the top... When than bought to colors of sand.... White sand the represents the purity of our love and wedding day and we picked another color which was the same color that the bridesmaids were wearing. Mine was Red.... We asked that our parents pour in the first grains of sand and then we asked someone pour in a few grains to represent the love ones who past away and the remaining was for the my husband and I poured in to finally unity us as one.... The design that makes is just beautiful... and it's not the same on both sides....

The second thing that we did in memory of our loved ones was this....
My grandmother died 2 months prior to my wedding and I was completely crushed by it... She was so happy that I was finally getting married and espeically to my husband who she loved dearly... She even had dreams of my wedding before her passing and said she could wait for that day to come... My Husbands grandmother died the year prior... We decided that in their memory we were going to do a butterfly release. Also at the table where they were to be seated we placed a crystal butterfly and a card with a poem that I had written and it goes like this...

Feel free to use it...

On this day of marriage
You are watching from above
Along with all of us you are
Witnessing our love

This day is very beautiful
As we both have said, I do
But something is surely missing
Without the warmth and the presence
Of you

Above heaven holds you
n safeness from the pain
Inside your soul
You strongly hold
Love from all of us you gained

That poem is beautiful thanku 4 posting it & sorry 4 ur lost

My nan died when i was 11 yr old & my fiance's dad died when he was 12 yr old -
I'm 22 now & my fiance is 51.

We are using floral cones- the first two-closest to the "alter" will have a picture(b&w) on the outside and the inside will say-In loving memory, Those we love are never far, They are with us always in our hearts! We are filling them with rose petals.

I'm also collecting ideas - here are some I've saved not sure what will be used...

get a vase with the words
"In Loving Memory
These flowers bloom as a symbol of life and love remembered"
and fill it with flowers... You could do the same thing with something like "This candle burns..."

Instead of that, though... I decided on just a regular vase of flowers that match those of the wedding party surrounded by framed photos of those we want to remember... And one bigger frame that has some nice paper with the following verse:

"We thought of you with love today,
but that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
and the days before that, too.
We think of you in silence;
We often speak your name
Though all we have are memories
and your picture(s) in a frame.
Your memory is a keepsake
with which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping;
We have you in our hearts.

In memory of live and love remembered."

HTH

"Memory Poem"
Those that we love dont go away
They walk beside us every day
Unseen, unheard, but always near
still loved, still missed and always held dear.

We are doing a memorial candle through Disney floral for my grandpa's and my great grandma. I believe the cost will be around $50 and they will have it all set up at the ceremony and then transfer it to the reception.
