I have been debating doing the CP for some time now. I have always wanted to do the college thing (move away/get an apartment/roomies/be independent/etc) but I never was able to. I commuted to college and lived at home instead. Which wasn't a bad thing..but still left me wanting to do the "college experience"...and grow a little. I saw the CP and thought it was a great opportunity to do that and have the benefits of not worrying about rent, transportation, etc. Plus, I will be graduating before I go and I thought it would be nice to take some time off to work..but have fun before I go out and find a job or an internship. Give me some breathing room between then and college. Since I will be graduating I worry that Im just "wasting" those months. How benefical can the CP really be for me? (I have a degree in English and in Comm..and will be getting my masters in something entertainment related...media studies/mass media/publishing) So, I'm on the fence about it.
I read a little from a book called, "Mouse Tales" by David Koenig. There's stories of roach problems, rat problems (I have Arachnophobia/Entomophobia). Story of a girl who refused to wear underware with her costume and had crabs.
I understand that things happen and those freak incidents are taken out of context, expanded upon and then called fact..many times when people are trying to sell a book (interviews for this book also happened when many disney members were on strike,I believe.) So...do I really have much to worry about...or is this just stories of one time happenings?

I don't know for sure since I've not experienced it myself, but I would think that those problems were made up or exaggerated. There are so many repeat CP's - I find it hard to believe that they would reapply it things were that bad.

I do know from living in Orlando for a time that ants, palmetto bugs, and sand fleas can be very persistent. Pest control is a constant issue and sometimes it works better than others.

It will be interesting to hear from those actually in the program about the mice and rats though.

Mouse Tales is actually about Disneyland, as opposed to Walt Disney World. A lot of things are similar between the two resorts, but there's also a lot of things that are different.

Also, many of the things he discusses in that book are really more pertinent to regular status (CR, FT) Cast Members than they are to CPs. CPs, for the most part, aren't around long enough to get tangled up in many of the situation he describes.

You are living in Florida so there will be bugs around lol. But we never had any in our apartment. We kept it clean by taking out the trash everyday and never leaving food on the counter. I never saw a roach or anything. Plus Disney did come and spray like every month which was like a five minute thing, most of the time I was sleeping when they did it. Honestly I was more worried about the mold growing on my bathroom ceiling since it was always so humid in there. The Cp is a great experience. I did one during my sophmore year in college and I am planning to go back this spring since I graduate this fall. It really is a way just to get some life experience and have fun doing it. Dont believe everything you hear or read. The cp is truly wonderful as long as you make the best of it.

ha..I meant to mention that...I understand it's FL. While I don't like it...I wouldn't expect there to be no bugs. I've been down to FL. for vacas (a lot of my family lives down there). I was more concerned with the "roach and rat problem". As long as it's normally stuff, not a problem. I just wanted to make sure it was an issue, ya know?
I expected this to be somewhat false (and I thought this was about WDW) but since I'm so on the fence about this...I'm trying to get a good grasp on this before I make the choice to do it. So, while I don't believe everything I read or hear...I like to take them into consideration when I'm weighing things out.
I graduate in May...so I'll be going down in the Fall...which means I'll be away for: My mom's birthday, my dad's birthday, my birthday, thanksgiving, christmas, and new years eve. I've never been away from my family for any of that. What do most people down there do for those holidays (thanksgiving/christmas)? Do you work it? Does anyone get presents? ha. that sounds silly..but seriously....whats christmas without presents? ha.

I did the Spring Advantge 06 and my departure date was Dec 15th so I ended up working on Christmas and my birthday but it was fine, my roommate at the time had been there for a while and knew each other very well so they had a tree, made dinner, and exchanged presents. It was actually a lot of fun so you have nothing to worry about.

As for the supposed rodent problem, I lived in Vista which is the oldest of all the complexes but I never saw any rodents or roaches. As long as you and your rommates keep your apartment clean you won't have an issue.

On the other hand...the squirrels can be very mean!!!
