Today DH needed to get two new tires for his truck so I took DS and we went out to lunch with him. At one point we were at a stop light and DH was in the passenger seat on the phone. I looked at him and noticed a man in a van in the bank driveway next to us. Not in front of my truck, by DH's door. When the light turned I went on and he got in behind me. He then followed me more than 3 blocks to IHOP. I thought it was strange, stranger still when he didn't pull into a parking spot. When we got out he pulled up and said "excuse me, I think you need to be a little more considerate." "About what?" asked DH, who had been on the phone the entire time he was next to us. "Back by the bank". "What bank?" He kept going on about us needing to be more considerate. DH finally said "Whatever, thanks" because he had not been paying attention and had no idea what the guy was talking about. The guy says "I could have said it a different way but I didn't want to talk that way in front of your child!"
In the first place, the guy was not there when I got to my spot at the light, he was in no way near the front of my truck where I would have thought he wanted in, and he went 3 blocks out of his way to lecture me on being considerate!!! He had to wait about 10 extra seconds so he went that far out of his way!! If people are pointed in front of me, say there is a small space between me and the car in front of me, I'll gladly let them in any day. But this guy was by the side of the truck! Then I'm supposed to be grateful he didn't chew me out in front of my son? FOR WHAT????? I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING!
DH just laughed it off when I told him what little I knew about it even though he did go back out of IHOP and make sure the guy didn't come around and do something to my truck. But I'm annoyed that this guy made a big deal when I didn't do anything.

I would have told him " I'm sorry but you have mistaken me for someone who cares" course this day in age I'm better off keeping my mouth shut.

People are so weird.

Theres gotta be something being left out....

Atleast it seems that way for someone to follow you so far.

I would have reminded him that he was the one doing the stalking and if he has an issue with me he should hunt down somebody who gives crap next time, because I don't.

I can't imagine following any discourteous driver unless they had damaged my car. Even then I'd just get the license plate.

I think I would have just ignored him and walked away...with maybe a "whatever" being thrown in while I was walking away. In no way are you obligated to let someone out in front of you. If you lived around my area that is the norm....people look shocked when you let them out.

In this day and age, I wouldn't follow anyone if I thought they did something wrong....it's not safe (though I know you wouldn't have done anything).

Chad I swear I have not left anything else. I like to be courteous to other drivers. I like to let people out or in as needed (except those people who know the lane is going to be blocked off and go all the way to the end and expect to be let in). It was pretty weird to be followed like that. If DH had not been with me I probably would have driven to the police station and seen if he followed me that far. There is concealed carry in Ohio now too so I'd have had that to worry about if I smarted off. It was all pretty weird; I'm not so mad now as I am disturbed by the whole thing.

You don't think there's a chance that something could have happened that you didn't notice? I mean there's no way we can be 100% aware of every little maneuver that is happening around us. You might have done something that you're not aware of.

I'm all for confronting dangerous and rude drivers if you're brave enough to do it. Too many people get away with things that could easily cause fatalities. Some people deserve to get the pee scared out of them.

With all the road rage and unbalanced people out there, the guy who followed you is very lucky that he didn't confront someone who would have attacked him.

Boy what a sad life that guy must have if he has time to follow and harrass people who do not drive to his liking. He must think the world revolves around him and must make himself miserable over every little thing in life that he does not like.

Hehe, k.

Im just glad this isn't a "I cut the guy off and he got pissed off" thread. I would have sided with the guy :p

I try to be nice and let people out, but you don't have to. The person in the driving lane has the right of way, not the person needing out.

I can't tell you how many time my wife Sue and I have been in situations where the other driver was clearly at fault, and they flip us off. I guess when you do something stupid, you have to do something to save face.

Sounds like you must have violated one of this guy's unwritten driving laws. I'm glad that nothing came of it.

A couple years ago in a Wal-Mart parking lot a guy swerved in front of me to take a parking spot I had been waiting for. As he exited the car, I lightly tapped my horn at the gentleman to get his attention. He promptly yelled "F*** you!" and shot me the bird. With great inner glee, I gave him my biggest and brightest smile and watched his eyes follow the direction I was calmly pointing in.......his car s l o w l y rolling into a car corral the next row over. He had forgotten to put it in park. :p I will never forget his frantic running nor the sound of his boots dragging the ground at his fruitless attempt to hold back his El Camino as it rammed into the car corral, which in turn was pushed into the side of a new shiny Monte Carlo that had been parked beside it. :teeth:

Ah, that one still brings a smile to my face. :sunny:

Doc, his only complaint was that we didn't let him out of the bank and that we needed to be more considerate. He didn't say I cut him off or anything. He just wanted out of the bank faster. I'm also glad nothing came of it. I mentioned it to DH when he got home and he'd forgotten all about it!

What an awesome moment! I have never understood those "anger management" cases. What causes all these people to be so angry!

Hey--where in North Georgia are you? I went to college in Dahlonega.

Too funny!

When we were kids my dad had a nut get beside him and the guy started screaming. If the dumb man only knew how violent my gun carrying cop father was he would have thought twice.
Thankfully my dad was in a good mood. As the guy waved his hands like a lunatic (both windows are down) my dad starts smiling real big and saying well hey there long time no see, how you been doing. The guy was so puzzled he rolled up his window and took off.
