Someone explain Capture the Flag for me

I'm so confused right about now. There was just me and the two opponents. I killed one and then I killed the person with the flag and it said they won! How can they win if they're dead? If I'm the last one standing, I can just go take their flag. So how is it that they win if they're dead? Someone care to explain what I'm missing?

Whichever team has moved the flag closer to their base when one team is completely destroyed wins. It's best not to kill the other team in CTF if they have grabbed the flag already. Leave at least one member alive. The goal is to shoot them enough that they drop the flag, but not enough to destroy them.

Oooh I get it now. Thanks for clearing that up. I was getting mad at the computer for awhile there. LOL
