My dad and stepmother live in Foley and are staying put. I have a stepsister in Orange Beach, a stepbrother in Gulf Shores, and several step uncle and aunts around Weeks Bay and Bay Minette. I can't get too much out of my dad. They live not too far from Lambert's Restaurant. So any info on how things are would be appreciated. Thanks.

According to this map with the wind field (based on the current forecast), they need to take this thing very seriously.

Where did you find that good map? I have only seen the ones from the national hurricane center. Even though we are in north Alabama I still fear that we will suffer some of the effects. We were talking at school today that when Opal came through in 95 we got a day and a half off from school.

Hi Boots! This area - including P'cola and Mobile - looks like we will get a lot of the storm. If they live in a sturdy home, things should be fine. Lambert's isn't close to water, so that's good. We should know more tomorrow. I'm sure they are watching all the updates and closings. The good thing for them - for now. They will probably be on the west side of the storm. Looks like we will have the east side.
Schools are closed here tomorrow - until further notice.
DH & I are going to evacuate. We are full-time RV'ers. We live in our 5th wheel all the time. We live north of P'cola in the country, so we have lots of trees that we want to get away from. We bought the new 5th wheel in March, so we don't want it around these trees. We will leave tomorrow. We will decide which direction to take tomorrow am. It may change several times. They are so unpredicable.

Boots, I hope you're still enjoying that litle girl. Aren't grandkids fun? We'll have to get together at Lambert's next time you're in the area. We love Lambert's!

bsnyder - that's a great map. This shows us just slightly to the west. I've been watching for that turn.
We remember Erin & Opal very well.

Here's the site with the wind field maps:

www.skeetobite.com

They don't update as frequently as the NHC does, but the maps do give a lot more detailed, on the ground info than the NHC track map.

To all of you in the panhandle and northern gulf coast, please take all the necessary precautions and stay safe!!!

Poohstyx, that's kinda neat that you can pick up and take your "house" with you! The morning that we evacuated for Charley, the NHC track had it heading straight towards us. Leaving my home that morning, not knowing what was going to happen, was one of the hardest things to do.

We got so lucky with that storm. I pray that you all will also be lucky with Ivan!

We are in meridian and suppose to get tropical force winds from it and 12 inches of rain. We are right on mississippi alabama border. I hope school is canceled!

Hi Dan! "Old Iron" is going to be busy today, getting our 5th wheel ready to get out of Ivan's way!
Anytime I see your name, I think of "Old Iron". That is classic!
BTW - has anyone heard from Ray Sharpton since the meet? I hope he's ok. He's a very nice man.
Happy belated anniversary to you & Marie. Hope it was a good one.

Take care ~
