Some Vero Beach questions

We are taking a cruise out of Miami Feb 2017. I'm trying to decide between staying at Vero Beach resort or trading points to stay right in Miami for 5 nights before the cruise. Any advice? We were hoping to avoid renting a car, bad experience with the traffic and Budget staff in Miami a few years ago. Any rentals with shuttles to the port ?

We often cruise out of Miami and have always used the National/Alamo car rental shuttle from Miami's airport. We're doing that later this month. We'll spend the night before the cruise at Vero Beach!

Just to clarify, do you return the rental car to the airport then take the shuttle to the port ? How far and is there a cost?

I wouldn't do VB without a car and I probably wouldn't trade points for that area. You might look for a private trade to a timeshare in the area then take a shuttle to the port. I don't know about rental cars, we've always either driven or taking a shuttle directly from the airport. A rental car does open up a to of opportunities for resorts that are further like Marco Island.

When we cruised out of Miami we flew into Miami airport and stayed at hotel (Miami airport Marriott) near the airport that offered free shuttle to/from airport. We arrived 2 or 3 days before the cruise to sight see and used the bus system (and some tram/train system too) to do so. On cruise day we took a taxi to the port but we could have taken airport shuttle back and then paid for the Carnival shuttle to the port (I think taxi was cheaper and taxis are waiting nearby the hotel). We then paid for that shuttle after the cruise to go to airport and fly home.
