Some tips that I would like to share

I just got back after 8 days at Disney. While it was a lot of fun, we still learned some things, good and bad. I traveled with my neighbors and their son who is 2 1/2, along with their Grandma, my inlaws, and of course my dh and two dd's 4 & 2 1/2.

These are not in any particular order, they are just what comes to my mind.

Crystal Palace - LOVED IT! The Winnie the Pooh characters were great and I would definitely do this character meal again. The food was fine, nothing fancy, just typical breakfast food.

Fastpasses - don't forget to get them early, especially if there is more than a 30 minute wait. Just make sure you will still be at the park when the return time is there.

Toontown - The lines do move slowly for the fairies and princesses, but if you bring a little bottle of bubbles and snacks, your kids will be happy. So will others around you.

Mickey Mouse and other Character meets in Toontown - I learned that there are 4 different rooms with the characters in them. You go to one room and they are all there. I had no idea that this was how it worked, so don't think that there is only one Mickey back there. Shh...don't tell the kids that you know this.

Parades - You really do need to find a seat 45 minutes from start time, otherwise you will be standing and your kids will be antsy.

Bathrooms - they aren't very well placed throughout the park. Every time we saw one we made sure we took the girls.

Drinks - we brought in our own bottled water. If we needed something cold, we just went to one of the stands and asked for ice water. It was FREE.

Meals - We packed PB & J every day for just the kids. That way if they could stay past lunch, we only would have to pay for adults to eat. If they couldn't make it past lunch, we would let them eat them in the stroller on the way to the car. Just make sure you have wipes to clean them up with.

Winnie the Pooh ride - cute. Very cute, but it was a little jerky and bouncy.

It's a Small World - For adults it gets on your nerves really quick, however the kids loved it. It was also a nice ride to do while you wait for a fastpass time. There was never a line and you could walk right on.

The Carousel - there is a white horse with a golden ribbon on the tail. That's Cinderella's horse. This also seemed to be a fast paced line.

Peter Pan - very cute, however the little ones had a hard time seeing everything down below. They still had fun, but I don't think they could see half the stuff. This also was a fast line. The ride doesn't stop as you load.

Pirates of the Caribbean - kind of scary if your kids are little. I think I would wait a few years before I put them on that ride again.

Ponchos - get them before you come down. That way yours isn't the same as the other 100,000 people. Try and get bright colored ones.

Strollers - I rented a double stroller for Orlando Stroller Rental. Best thing I ever did! The stroller was great, easy to push, easy to fold. I wanted to take it home with me. There was even enough storage with it.

Shopping - don't forget if you buy something in the park, have it delivered to your room or have them pack it up for you so you can pick it up when you leave the park. There is no reason to have to carry a bag around with you.

Sunscreen - even if you are in a tropical storm at Disney, still apply the sunscreen.

Umbrellas - bring at least one from home. You will be happy if you need it.

Windsor Hills – wonderful home that we stayed in, especially with younger children. They all had their own rooms something you won’t get at a hotel. Location wasn’t bad at all. I liked how I had the freedom to go grocery shopping or make a quick run to Walgreens. I have stayed at the Contemporary in the past and will probably stay on resort when the kids are older.

Books – I am so glad I had brought my Complete Walt Disney World 2009 and Birnbaum’s WDW 2009 Pocket Parks Guide. The maps at the parks are very vague about what the ride is. Not only did it help with rides, they helped with where we wanted to grab a fast snack. I also tore out the maps to each park out of my Passporters book. They were much easier to read.

Sea World – if it’s a rainy day, find a different park to go to. You can’t pet the dolphins if you have ponchos on. I was totally bummed.

Rental Cars – my father in law was in charge of this particular reservation because he was a member of Hertz. We told him exactly what we needed. He said he reserved them, only to find out after walking from one end of the baggage claim area to the other that he didn’t end up going through Hertz. He saved us $59 by going with Sunshine Rental Cars. NOT WORTH IT!! Who cares about $59!! The inconvenience was a pain! It was off airport parking, 10 minutes away, and the shuttle driver was horrible. ALSO the vans did not have tinted windows. I’m sorry, but when you are vacationing in FL, you want tinted windows.

Baby wipes – make sure you buy a travel size and keep them for hands ect. All the kids are potty trained but it was so nice to still have those with us. We used them a lot. GermX wipes were also our friends.

Hospitals – Do not go to the hospital in Celebration, especially if it’s for your child. Go to Arnold Palmer.

If you are going with a large group of people, remember not everyone wants to do the same thing. Remember to have fun!

Here's my trip report for more if you are interested.

On Fastpasses, you can often use these after the indicated end time. Found this out when we were rushing through dinner at CP to use some fastpasses. The CM told us they would take them after the end time and they did.

Rental cars in Orlando - sheesh. The last two times I have rented in Orlando, it has been a mess. One time traveling with my family - four total - we had reserved a mid size car. They came out with a ten passenger van. It took us almost an hour to get a suitable car. The Seinfeld episode where he questions the rental car lady about whether she knew the definition of reservation came to mind.

The most recent trip with a rental was by myself. I had reserved a compact. They came out with a mini van. After being told that absolutely no compact or midsize cars were available, even after pointing out at least ten on the lot, I canceled my reservation and took the bus back to the airport to rent from another company.

Strollers - I just looked at a single at Orlando Stroller Rentals for our upcoming trip. (We're driving this time so no rental.) Was it as convenient as it seems?

Fast line? You picked a fantastic time to see it, I'm assuming. That line can be a killer :lmao:

Thanks for your tips! I love Crystal Palace for breakfast :lovestruc Not so much for lunch or dinner, but I think they have a lovely spread for breakfast. Sounds like you had a great time. :cloud9:

Yes, you can use FP's after the expiration time with no problem.

Thanks for tip about a different colored poncho--great idea to spot your group. We were thinking about taking water bottles but if they will provide ice water that's 1 less thing to carry.:yay:

Please don't use bubbles in lines. Not everyone around you will be happy, I assure you. There are lots of people (like my grandaughter) who are allergic to the bubble solution and may have to leave the line because of them. Even people who are not allergic to the stuff don't appreciate the bubbles getting all over their glasses and camera lenses. That stuff is hard to get off. Also if you are standing directly behind someone and using it, they may not appreciate their clothes getting wet and sticky.

thank you OP for your tips.

Gotta agree with the last poster - NO bubbles please. They do spill on other folks shoes and in a crowded line kids bump others with the wand.

And yes ponchos - NO umbrellas. Can't tell you how many times we got run into by umbrellas during the heavy rains last week!!

Sounds like you had a good time!:thumbsup2 I would also have to discourage the bubbles though. They may be great in certain situations, just not in a crowded line.;)

For the stroller rental, do you pick it up at the airport or your hotel? We have a 4 year old and I'm debating whether to just check my stroller at the airport, or just rent one? What does everyone think??

They drop it off for you at your hotel. They can have it waiting for you when you arrive. We were at a rental house and they showed up about an hour after we got there. When we left, we folded it up and put it behind the large pillar by the front door.

The nice thing about their strollers are that they are very easy to use and can hold good size kiddos. My 4 year old is 46 pounds and 44 inches. She's not small, yet she seemed to be very comfortable in their stroller.

a stroller is very easy. Airlines will allow you to use them up to the gate, check them at the gate and hand them to you when you are leaving the plane. If you are flying in and out of a large airport it's a great convenience.

Unfortunately, the umbrella stroller we have no longer fits our daughter. We don't need one for everyday use but for the MK and Epcot it may be useful.

We rented one from A Baby's Best Friend http://www.abbf.com/ last summer. They dropped it off at our hotel, and picked it up there after the trip. It worked perfectly and I would recommend this to anyone who needs a stroller. The cost to rent at Disney is just too high.

Thanks so much for the great tips. I think bringing bubbles is a great idea for some wind down time, but I do agree that in lines it may not be appropriate. Thanks again.

hospital in Celebration???

Why would you not go there?

We Love Celebration Health!!
I have been to Most of the hospitals in Orlando Due to me living there for 5 1/2 years..
I would never go any where else..
my little girl Alexis was even born there... and When i had heart failure they were super & took great care of me...

As you can see i love celebration health....

So i'm just wondering why you don't like it and why you would tell people not to go there??

I was surprised about your remark about the restrooms not being in very convenient locations.

I've been many times and thinking about the various parks, can say they are all over the place. Now if you are a newbie, you may not know where they are....I can just assure you that they are well spaced throughout all of the parks, you just have to use your map and/or keep eyes open for signage.

Believe me, I could probably tell you where all the restrooms are just off the top of my head! LOL.
